WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TOM SPARROW
Classic pick for us - hard working, professional and will give his all for the side. Love that we are continuing to draft these types as it will pay dividends for us in the short and long term. Welcome Tom!

Farewell Jesse Hogan
He plays for Freo... he's gawn.

I haven't really bought the notion that he wasn't invested in the club, or questioned his passion to win, but the above does put it in the spotlight. For reasons we could all understand, perhaps footy isn't first and foremost in his life anymore? Maybe getting himself around family and friends is the most important thing right now, which under the circumstances you couldn't blame him for. Either way, I agree that we have done well out of this, and while I understand why others might be disappointed in the overall deal, I'm happy with how it turned out and I hold no ill feeling whatsoever towards Jesse. I wish him well at Freo, but I'm also super excited for what our clubs future holds!

Recruiting a 3rd tall forward to find another 50 goals?
Spot on. They hope Weideman takes the lions share of those goals, but Trac, T Mac, Fristch, Hannan, Melksham, Oliver, Spargo etc. etc. will also share the load a little as well. I'm not worried about it at all.

Add Salem to that backline as well. It's looking very, very good.

And you're the biggest waste of space on the board, posting negative tripe every chance he gets. Works both ways, you big sook.

You know it's a good deal when the usual posters are the ones melting down, while the rest see this deal for what it is. Always comforting.

Hogan for May, KK and Pick 23. I'll take it. I'm sad to see Hogan go, but this pushes us further towards a flag, which is the ultimate goal of any footy club.

Depends how their picks work out. What if they want in two years time, or turn into average players? What is May and KK are part of a premiership side in the next few seasons? I'll hold off before saying Freo got 'more' for Neale than we did for Hogan. Too subjective.

Neale announced as officially a Lions player. We aren't far away now.

From someone's back pocket.

I can't wait for the two hour telecast where the only deal going down is Karl Amon to the Saints for a fifth round pick. Riveting.

I'd be very, very, very surprised if we got Cerra. I just can't see it happening. It'll be for picks, nothing more.

Trade Radio reporting that we've just arrived at Colonial Telstra Etihad Marvel Stadium! It's on now!

This day will be so slow... until the final two hours when, miraculously, all the deals go through as the Foxtel telecast begins!

Just the way Jason Taylor likes it.

That bloke in your avatar finding his form again in 2019 would certainly help with the outside speed solution!

I see what you're saying re: someone going down with an injury up forward, but I still believe we are blessed with lots of talent down there that we could cover it. Trac plays tall, as do Fritsch and Hannan, while Melksham can win then ball in the air or at ground level. Not to mention we have the capacity of resting Oliver deep forward and, as you say, Preuss can provide a contest down there and swap with Gawny as well. I reckon we would adapt and overcome if that happened, but let's hope we don't really need to consider it.

Amen to that, Doc. Well said. It's the same with the picks we will take to the draft. We've been sensational in the mid to late picks over the last few years, and there's no reason why this won't continue in 2018.

The Age article has us, hypothetically, getting May, KK and Pick 23 for Hogan. It's not a sexy deal by any means, but we address two needs - a key back and outside run - while still potentially maintaining a very potent forward line, while also holding on to our first round picks for the next few years that we can use for further moves over the coming seasons. It's a good outcome, although I can understand why people may see this as unders to begin with.

If we always get shafted in deals then we would be a bottom 4 side, not a top 4 side.

Your knowledge astounds me, ET!

Couldn't agree more. He clarified it later by saying that he was highly likely to end up at Melbourne.

GC won't do that, not until the moment it's clear we won't be trading Hogan. They would look silly if they traded him for Pick 7 and a few hours later we had Pick 5. Plus May will want to wait as it's still clear we are his first preference. But, I see what you mean. If he is legit happy to play anywhere if he has to, then it puts a little extra pressure on us to get the deal done. I don't see it as a major issue though.
