Picks were obviously very valuable this year which made trades for players like Green extremely difficult to get through, however one thing that this trade period did confirm is our poor reputation. Established players just don't want to come to Melbourne, and this is Bailey's charge going forward. We need to become a club which is successful and attractive to players. Right now we are a joke, we have alot of work ahead of us to change this.

A great result will be to retain our first 3 picks and pick up Warnock in the psd

Green, Sylvia, Johnson, Rivers & Jamar attract interest..

I've had some fun recently by niggling Nudge however I have to say that in the past I've discovered that alot of his material is pretty close to the truth. You just have to remember that in trade week alot of players get discussed and bandied about, but only a small percentage of deals actually get to the trade stage. -
Dees most likely destination for big Eagle

Wrong, I'm amazed that someone who claims to know so much could get this simple fact so badly wrong. Of course this makes the rest of your post completely irrelevant. -
After seeing Watts' draft camp results I'm happy to concede my earlier misgivings about the kid and acknowledge that he should be taken at 1, not because he is a KPP, but purely because he is the best kid in this year's draft. Any doubts I had about him were dismissed after seeing his response to going to a bottom club. He really seems to have a fire in his belly to succeed, which was a concern that I had over him. I happy for him to continually prove me wrong

Late or rookie pick - Rory Sloane
-
YM already won because he just wants to get a reaction
-
As would the Eagles and Freo, possibly Port as well. Which would make the result of 14 seem rather odd...

Do you honestly believe that our recruiting manager will tell a journo today who he thinks is the number 1 pick? Point taken on the draft camp though, I forgot that it was this week, I just find it hard to believe.
-
Not bad, just went around the entire country in one day and asked all of the recruiting managers. Fair effort.

Who did the straw ool? Sorry couldn't resist, seriously though who did the poll and how did you get the info?

With Naitanui locked in at pick 1, how will the rest pan out.

Very true, Franklin is a gun but they have a very good even team with a smart coach. They also have a couple of other elites in Hodge and Mitchell. -
Barracking for Dorks or Pussies on Saturday?

Couldn't care who wins, I'll probably watch the game but care factor=0 on the result. I'm hoping the biff makes a reapperance though just to make it entertaining. -
You can't judge a kid on one single game, especially in a season where he's played alot of footy.

Jack Watts - Confirmed #1 Pick in 2008 Draft - Booyah!!!

But this is where you are wrong, no two players are ever the same or equal. -

Yep, my description of you fits perfectly, too arrogant to have a discussion or a debate. God help your kid, who knows what type of person he'll grow into with you as a role model . -

Nice try, but you won't win playing that game with me. As I've already stated several times I haven't seen alot of him and these observations have come from people who have - guys who have played with him, talent scouts and opposition coaches. I've raised the query because if we are going to invest a number one pick in him we have to be 100% certain. If you think this is wrong then I'm glad you're not in charge of our recruiting, we have to get it right with this one. If the qestion marks are proved to be inaccurate then I'm all for taking him, but right now there are far too many with this belief to just ignore it. I realise though that someone as arrogant as yourself wouldn't understand this concept, your undying belief in your own view forbids you to even consider your own perspective. -

Do you really want a player with our first pick who doesn't like to tackle and avoids body contact? -

So they took Roughead first and 'hoped' that the tigers wouldn't take the player that they really wanted. Yeah, a real strong argument there -

I have no idea what you mean here CAC picked up a player based on positional reasons rather than 'best available' in the strognest ever draft, a decision that will continue to hurt us for another 5 or so years. Now that's stupid. Here we go again No one knew how the players were going to turn out, at the time Deledio appeared that he was going to be a once in a generation type, Franklin had query marks over his attitude (not his agression at the ball mind, just his commitment). So far history shows the Hawks made the right choice, eventually, hell they passed on Franklin with their first pick as well. But you're making this judgement knowing how they turned out, we don't have that luxury. That's why you take the best available with a first round pick, it's even more important for a top 3 pick, you just can't gamble with it, it's far too important. No two players are the same, it's far too simplistic to even suggest that this is the case. -

You misunderstand why I mentioned Molan, he was picked because he played a certain position, ie a KP, rather than his ability. A mistake that has cost us greatly. Also this wasn't the pick that ND overruled CAC on, can't remember which one but it was mentioned on this site a little while ago and it wasn't this one. -

'Best available' is subjective and as we all know opinions can differ greatly. Using the bulldogs as an example they identied Griffen as the one they wanted, they thought he was the best behind Delidio, interestingly the Hawks rated Roughead over franklin as well, so going by your example and with 20/20 hindsight to back me up they were all wrong. If Prendergast (or however you spell it) picks Watts because he thinks he is the best available then I have no problem with that, however if we pick up a kid purely based on the position he plays then I'll be pretty upset. -

Jarka replied to Tex's topic in Melbourne Demons
The argument is flawed though because no two players are ever the same. The decision shouldn't be made on the position they play, it's just plain stupid to do that. Remember Molan? A top 10 pick in the greatest draft and we blew it because we wanted to fill a certain position, we didn't take the best available. -

Fevola? Bad example, he loves hurting other people, his problem is that he sulks when thigns don't go his way, completely different to the query over Watts. Convinced? Hardly, confused with your example is a better description. -
Found his position in tagging this year but he just doesn't get enough of the ball. Sadly the negatives don't stop there. Poor overhead marking, poor decision making and poor disposal. Basically he was taken far too early which has put too much pressure on him to perform..
