Talking point: the unevenness of the competition
Jarka replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I haven't done the stats but from memory the spread of premiership points is very similar to both codes. You obviously can't compare the two directly because of the scoring systems for each sport but the spread of points looks about similar. I think in reality there is just as much chance of an upset occurring in either sport -
Who is shaping as a surprise packet for Melbourne in 2015?
Jarka replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
We've probably got about half a dozen who could fit into this category, who are at that right age and experience to start showing at AFL level. Frost Newton Michie Viney Kent Toumpas JKH Riley And then there are the draftees who could produce anything...or nothing. My guess is Newton or Toumpas to really step it up -
I thought the trade was a good one as soon as it was done, I think Frost alone will make it a great trade for us, getting ANB & McDonald just makes it ridiculously in our favour

Over the last 15 years how many have been successful? Probably just 1

Yep, saw that article, Tom McDonald stated that he'd be in the back line again, but this time he's going to train for it. Something to look out for anyone heading down to training over the next couple of moths

I must walk to the beat of a different drum, I personally think it's important for an ex-player to do some coaching at a different club.

Does anyone think that PEtracca may have shown some signs of fatigue after the first session?

I'd be more concerned about having to wear a face mask for the rest of your life to be able to breathe, I suppose it did change your voice from a whinny little white boy into a cool Afro American.

Back off Tom Scully, pleads GWS coach. He's a 'running machine' http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-12-05/back-off-tom-scully

Are you trying to say that a media organisation would deliberately photo shop a picture of Mitch Clark to make him appear fat after he's well known battle with depression? Seriously
-
I don't think he'd be able to get a game ahead of our kids, really [censored] him

The Saints will be sharing the oval with a cricket team, if I heard correctly. That is the last thing you want to do, not being able to train in the middle of the ground because of a pitch is disastrous. We've done it before and the results spoke for themselves

Sorry to hear the news of your loss

Isn't it time to back our football department in the midfield?
Jarka replied to CBDees's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think that we now have the makings of a midfield capable of getting us into finals however we should always be looking at improving it either via trade, F/A or the draft. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ANGUS BRAYSHAW
Jarka replied to ashdemons22's topic in Melbourne Demons
From those highlights he looks like a bigger version of Jack Viney. -
There's no point in having too many rucks on the list, they take years to develop, you might as well just trade them in on a needs basis and keeping more spots open for midfielders
-
Jamar is our no.1 ruck with Gawn as his understudy. Spencer is the backup in case of injuries with Pederson able to pinch hit if required. King is a developing kid (who I think will end up our best one). So, that's 4 genuine rucks and 1 pinch hitter. With a list of 40 players, that's 12% of the list for one playing spot. That sounds about right, perhaps go for one as a rookie but clubs generally will trade for an experienced ruck now rather than carry too many on the list.

Oscar can also play forward

Quality post, not sure if you'll fit in here.

Absolutely, Howe is a good player but he's not $650k value. If GWS offered him that I would not begrudge him taking advantage of their stupidity
-
$650k for Howe... Sure, sounds legit.

Morton got a lot of touches in his early days but they weren't really damaging. His biggest problem was he was so slow to get ball to foot, under pressure he was terrible. It's sad but he just wasn't able to translate his footy to the highest level Oh, almost forgot, you're absolutely right
