With the result of last night's game, it's a virtual certainty that Essendon will finish 12th and receive draft pick # 5. The Bombers cannot finish lower than 12th and given that the Blues have won an extra game and have a substantially higher percentage, they cannot fall lower than 11th. Ironical that the team that tanked in 2007 cannot achive anything by tanking their last two games this year. The draft order for 2008 therefore is:- 1 ? 2 ? 3 ? 4 ? 5 Essendon 6 ? 7 ? 8 ? 9 ? 10 ? 11 ? 12 ? 13 ? 14 ? 15 ? 16 ?

The fact that we are playing a preponderance of games on Sunday can't be blamed on administrations from the mid/late 90s. Clubs get the opportunity annually to provide the AFL with their fixture wish list. Our old Board simply didn't go hard enough to get the more lucrative Friday night spots. We're now the fillers on the worst game day of the fixture and it's our own fault. Hopefully, the club will now go about setting that right.

That is why Brown, the superstar McNamee wanted to nab on a five-year contract, was not seriously considered by Bailey, Connolly and other football heads at Melbourne. To continue to pursue Brown would have undermined everything the football department and the coah have been doing this year. One of them had to go - Mac or the FD. As a supporter of a football team and having seen how the current leading sides have developed over recent years, I would back the FD any day of the week.

Which of the teams has fared the worst since that game? For Melbourne, the following could all be missing: James Frawley, Nathan Carroll, Jared Rivers, Brent Moloney, Brock McLean, Russell Robertson, Brad Green, Jeff White (?) and James McDonald (?) I don't know much about Freo but I would say from their injury list that Marcus Drum, Des Headland and Andrew Foster will alll be out. Dean Solomon won't be seen till next year and Peter Bell has retired.

Excellent point about the lack of star quality players at the club. However, where do you get stars from and why haven't we able to produce them over the years in the way other clubs have?

Almost 100% correct. According to my mates out Swan Districts way, NN is now nudging 200cm tall.

Just in case anybody's interested NN absolutely dominated in the WA v NSW/ACT game at the Australian Championships today. Got virtually every hit out, most of them went to advantage and was good around the ground playing like a midfielder. Oh, and he's only 197cm tall and growing. On the other hand, Daniel Rich was tightly tagged in the midfield and only had limited impact although his disposal was very good. He's also a strong bodied type which makes him similar in style to a few of our midfielders. At this stage you would have to say that the prize for winning the wooden spoon will be a dynamic young ruckman who can leap tall building and has dreadlocks.

That's fair enough but Robbo's bagging of fansites is much more insiduous than that. What he's doing is painting us all in the same light as the idiot minority of posters on all sites who type first and think later. I don't agree that any of the fansites - particularly not this one - are anything like the picture Robinson painted in his article which makes it a bad piece of journalism.

Wrong. I'm the one who called him a pickle and it's not just because he threw his weight behind Joe. It's the malevolent way he did it then and the fact that he's doing the same thing now. Criticism and especially constructive criticism of the club is always welcome but if all you can do is bag the place then you're a waste of time and that's why I think Dr. Turf is a pickle. He's much better off playing the stupid clown but I'm not so sure that it's an act. -
Wouldhave been better to the tune of The Captain by Kasey Chambers. Can anyone do that!

It seems to me that Dr. Turf would know a fair bit about incompetence because that's what he called Joe Gutnick when he supported the Szondy ticket that overthrew him. In other words, Turfie is one of the people who backed the group that came to power in 2001 and gave us Szondy and a succession of others like the idiot he had as CEO a few years ago who left the tax bill in the top drawer isntead of paying it. Thanks Turfie but you're a pickle! -

It will beneficial for the football team as well because they've been asked to stay on the ground to watch a few 14 year olds show them how to effectively execute the Bailey game plan. -
I believe they will be locking the gates at 2.11pm to keep the Melbourne supporters in the ground.
