Semantics, Redleg. Crack is more commonly used when referring to a fracture that doesn’t go ‘through’ the bone entire or is ‘undisplaced’. In other words, if you didn’t see the fracture ‘line’, you wouldn’t know the bone is broken. A ‘displaced’ fracture, of which there’s a spectrum of severity, means the bone is not aligned as ‘normal’ either side of the crack/s. Jeremy Howe’s arm last year was a displaced fracture. Very. Nobody’s calling that a crack.
As to Maysie’s return, the issue will be pain. Playing won’t make the situation worse. The contrary situation to this would be if someone had a crack in their navicular bone (arch, or midfoot), which is a vital weight-bearing, structural bone. Crack might be there on imaging, but without pain. No way that player plays until the crack is fully resolved, regardless of pain. Reason being that the crack can turn into a bigger crack, and career over. Not the case with ribs, or transverse process.

Loving your insights @Webber, really gives additional confidence on club/other feedback. Thanks very much!

    Great reports all.

Hopefully Chandler does make the cut. Been impressed with his goal kicking the last 2 weeks, both from the snaps and the set shots.

I thought Chandler's first goal on the weekend might have been just beyond his range, just outside 50; but he made the distance quite easily. Never happier to be wrong!

Why are we flying to Adelaide on Wednesday for a Saturday game?

    It could be either:

    (a) the club got an excellent rate on hotel rooms for the week, saving money given Adelaide hotel prices for Gather Round

    (b) to effectively deal with jet lag

    (c) to allow time for a barossa valley tour

    (d) all of the above

    Really?

    That was seriously his theory?

Man oh man, some people. Imagine  one thinking that, and two going to the effort to call a radio station and broadcast your stupidity.

Not that I’d ring a radio station to discuss it, but this is my viewpoint on Cody Weightman

Can't say I have overly found memories of the place compared to the 'G.

I fondly remember us beating WCE there in the 1988 elimination final (I think it was) by 4 pts or so. Garry Lyon kicked a beautiful snap to put us in front with 40 secs to go, then WCE streaming forward from the next centre bounce, only to kick a point and lose (not that any of us noticed this part, we were all still celebrating Lyon's goal).

Yes, and also, if you have concussion a certain amount of times - are clubs then expected to request CT scans before contracts are ratified? A biopsy of the blood-brain barrier? And then do they get 50% of the contract due to the increased risk?

Knees can be tested and gambled on - heads are a couple of Brayden Maynard ‘smothers’ away from retirement…

This is exactly the point that Robbo is missing in comparing a bung knee to concussion. Gus's decision was effectively made for him by medical experts, and we don't want either the AFL or the footy club concerned to attempt to exert influence on any such decision, given the invisible nature of the injury, based on commercial factors like carrying the impending retirement within a salary cap.

Wow. That is cooked. And needs changing right away. At worst you would say 9m out from where the disputed ball was in play NOT the top of the goal square

But the disputed ball was on the goal line - and the kick off line (top of the goal square) is 9m out. So I'm not quite sure what you're saying here jnr.

    Loved seeing May smash Harmes

I know you come from the old school of "he doesn't play for us anymore", but I for one (goes with my username) was happy to see him getting a kick and continuing his career - I think we got the best from him, and moved him on at the right time. His kick to hit up fritta in the grand final was not only the best kick I ever saw, it was the start of a massive turnaround in that grand final.

Idk how many but I know there was enough to make quarters way longer than they should’ve been. Every unnecessary minute in that baking sun felt like an hour.

Im with you WCW - we need to start a class action against the AFL for skin cancer victims

But the biomechanics expert will testify that he had no other options and kicking is a football act... 🤔

If they argue that kicking is a football act, then it should have been a 50m penalty at least given the ball wasn't in play.

  11. Shout out to Howes who I thought looked really comfortable and composed in game 2. He, Marty Hore and Judd McVee showed really solid support to the three tall defenders and I agree with the earlier poster who highlighted the benefit of this being that this provides the grounds for Salo to move into the midfield.

  12. Harry Mackay last year couldn’t hit the side of a barn, and I wouldn’t put my house on Joe Daniher kicking a goal either. Last year our problem was kicking accuracy, not forward connection/impotency. As other posters have said, get a couple of our key outs back in and focus on straight kicking.

  13. We should go back to last year and read the post game thread for the Brisbane away game which was also very hot and humid, and we got a towelling up until the lights went out and we then kicked 5 goals to make the loss look less awful. We still made the top 4 last year despite that showing.

I'm taking the same view this year - we were very rusty and the conditions certainly didn't help. Probably most disappointing from last night was the last quarter showing after kicking 5 in the third.
