Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
At the break of Gawn replied to Demons11's topic in Melbourne Demons
Can someone please explain to me the Garry Pert hate? Genuinely interested in the rationale. Aren’t all our problems essentially with the footy department or is there something that I’m missing? -
So since Petracca has threatened to leave, he’s caused 1) A president to resign 2) An external review to be undertaken Really interested to see what gets added to this list as the next 6 months unfolds.
-
Add Papley to that list. One of the biggest wankers in the AFL, as thick as they come, tried to leave his club, yet… Swans supporters love him now because he’s put it behind him and winning finals for them.
-
In some ways this helps the Giants get to a grand final easier. They’ll beat Brisbane at Engie or Carlton if they somehow make it and then I’d back them to beat the Cats at the MCG.
-
Great to see. Pity the game wasn’t a great spectacle.
-
Mitchell is the ace in the pack. He’s going to win multiple flags as coach and the Hawks knew this when they got rid of Clarko.

Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread

I hope any review they do looks at our high performance management. Been poor since Burgo has left. I know Griffith was supposed to be his apprentice but we’ve got clear deficiencies in our fitness. If we’re serious about turning things around in a hurry, I’d throw the cheque book at Peter Burge. The Hawks are clearly the fittest team in the comp and he’s also got runs on the board as he was at Richmond during their 3 flags. -
The closeness Mitchell has with his players looks special. Reminds me of Goody with our group in 2021.
-
When was the last time the Dogs won a final in Melbourne? 2016?
-
Port haven’t won a final since 2021 yet were the club in turmoil.
-
Watching a Qualifying final just blows my mind that we had 4 chances to make a prelim and blew every one of them in ‘22 and ‘23. Statistical chances of that happening would be awfully low.
-
To become the best ground ball team in the comp like we were in 2021
-
No Saturday night games No night games against interstate sides at the MCG.
-
If the Cats go out in straight sets (very possible) will they get the same heat after winning a flag as we did? No finals and straight sets is worse than 2x straight sets.
-
Considering his brother ran through a Collingwood banner for his own wedding (source Instagram) then the comment by Trac’s Dad at the B&F that “We’re a Collingwood family” really does hold true.
-
Unfortunately with the way AFL media is, this will hang over the club’s head for the next 12 months until the next trade period. Having said that, a lot can change in 12 months such as: 1) the Dees have a successful season and win at least one final at the MCG 2) Dees have a poor year and somehow the Pies have the trade capital 3) Dees have an average season however the Pies are no longer in the window/Blues don’t have the cap space I actually think the Pies will finish bottom 4 next year due to their aging list and injury issues. Even if we do struggle on-field next year, the Pies might not look appealing anymore. We’re going to be the most under pressure team next year. The last time that happened, we won a flag. Call me an optimist, but hopefully this fork in the road brings about some change needed.

This is why I rate Bevo so highly. He did an amazing job pulling that club back together. He also doesn’t take [censored] from the media, his take down of Tom Morris is honestly something Goody should take a leaf out of.
-
If we had won the flag in ‘22 or ‘23 no one would be caring all that much. The problem is everyone thought this group would win multiple flags.
-
Why has Morris mentioned that Pickett’s reason is “direction of the club”? That’s completely false. How does channel 9 let that go on the air? Also I believe @WalkingCivilWar mentioned that Kozzy’s partner has family in Melbourne which has been helpful with the new baby.

Darren Burgess Potential Return to Victoria
At the break of Gawn replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
The Crows had the hardest fixture out of anyone. They actually had some decent form the back half of the year. Surely Burgess still studies this stuff to improve. His approach of the May hamstring in the 2021 finals seemed almost academic in nature. -
If only Luke Jackson hadn’t left…
At the break of Gawn replied to OhMyDees's topic in Melbourne Demons
Was very poor last night I thought. Why wasn’t it just him in the ruck? -
One spot off bottom 4 is pretty damning, but 11 wins is still decent.
-
Safe to say Richmond, North and West coast will all struggle again next year so that could be 6-0 for us.
-
Absolutely hate this season. Carlton missing out would have been a great consolation. Instead they’re probably going to beat Brisbane with all their players back and the media will fall in love with them again when all they’ve done is beat North and West coast over the last 6 weeks.

How many years until our next premiership?
At the break of Gawn replied to greenwaves's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think within 5 years.
