Was thinking you could get twice the laughs! The other link is embedded in the article of the one I posted You have pointed out the areas where they are completely neive as to why the code is the way it is. There are very good reasons for it and it actually relatively easy to live within the code, hence thousands of athletes manage to do it.

Anyone who is keen for a laugh have a read of this, I found it linked in Richard Ing's twitter account. Hilarious is its misunderstanding of the code and why it is the way it is. http://thenewdaily.com.au/sport/2015/12/20/essendon-wada-appeal-asada-tom-ryan/ I had barely stopped laughing from the first one when I clicked on this link, more laughter ensued. http://thenewdaily.com.au/sport/2015/12/20/essendon-wada-appeal-asada-tom-ryan/ Makes me wonder if the new daily is the new paper published in Tullamarine!

I think both teams should get to keep their captain in the place of their first round pick in the draft. Keeps the identity at the club and nullifies any advantage from doing so.
-
About time someone in the media pointed out the absolute failings of the culture of the AFL. This is just one of the reasons I don't consider them elite in any way.

It doesn't make sense to count the provisional suspension. The intention of it is to count to a suspension coming from the hearing but not disadvantage you if you are cleared. They got cleared and it was no disadvantage. To count it now when it is not continuous goes against that intention. It may well happen but it doesn't sit right with me.

My issue so much that it was Tim in the quote, it was that it was Tim and his quote is saying read this if you want the truth. They don't go together as Tim doesn't know the truth. If the quote was more along the lines of 'this is an in depth study in the search for the truth then I have far less issue. The way it looks is that he is after EFC supporters to read it and take it as truth because their legend Tim said it is the truth. It raises questions to me for two reasons; 1- If Tim thinks it is the truth then is it really as the 'truth' Tim knows has been managed by the club from day one. 2- It seems a call to EFC supporters to read this, it is true, see your legend Tim said its the truth. Could well be innocent and it could be a well balanced book, I haven't read it as I don't take chip all that seriously due to the few other things I have read of his, but this quote isn't a good look.
-
A pic of it is in various posts above. The quote is; "The Essendon supplements investigation became a wrecking ball. Chip's access to key players on both side makes this a must read for anyone interested in the truth." As I said, how does Tim know what the actual truth is. His only info would be coming from within the club, the 'parents nights' and his son. One I think he should trust, Jobe seems an honest and forthright person with integrity, the others I have some serious questions about.
-
Top left corner of the cover of the book as shown above in a few comments.
-
And how is Tim qualified to determine what is the truth? He has massive conflicts of interest in the entire affair and if the book is being sold as being 'the truth' then that quote should not be there. Tim would merely be a player in the many quotes in the book, if he is even that!

1: 2 years reduced to 12 months due to time taken out of players hands (even though the club has delayed on their behalf the players actually technically haven't delayed the process), less time served (although I am not convinced this can count), sees them returning eligible to play around the end of next season (I don't expect a result until mid Jan at the earliest). 2: a season 3: Unsure 4: If they do it will not be an announcement to the public, it will be show cause notices served to the individuals at some point in the first few months of 2016, and we start his whole process again.

I based the $300 on the cost of their full memberships which start at $275 and go up over $750. You are right about the juniors, 3 game, country etc. Would be interesting to see the split and compare to other clubs. Do Collingwood really only have 20,000 full members and 50,000 other members? How does this compare to us for instance?
-
Just a point of clarification, Lance did fail doping tests on a few occasions but always got off the charge. It is right though that none of these tests were used in his conviction for doping.
-
Think you missed a zero. 70,000 members times $300 each (Which is probably under the average cost) is $21 million, not 2 million.

They don't even seem to realise that CAS is not WADA and therefore the corruption of WADA ,if there is any, is actually irrelevant. Just goes to show how little many of the fanboys actually know about what is going on.

According to Mclure Young has 'blown people out of the water with the way he reconstructed the line of evidence'. Good signs maybe?

Essendon Changes Clash Strip - what about us?
Chris replied to GoodAsGawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who knows what this may look like, may well be a red sash going the other way, kind of like Collinwood's two jumpers, one white on black and other black on white. -
We would have had Judd, Pendles, and Prestia though!

Quotes aren't working again. Macca in response to your post above. You say you know people who take Essendons side because of their love of the sport, I find that amusing as that is my motivation for wanting the sport to be clean and for there to be no way for the sport to be seen as dirty or hiding from their responsibilities. I know that is a pipe dream of mine but I can't understand wanting the sport to do long term damage to its brand of you love that sport.

It worked this time! Am on a phone now and it didn't work on a PC earlier either. Probably just a bug in the nice new system.

My quote function isn't working, it picks up the wrong comment so this is in reply to Iva above about the role of WADA and legal principals. The process for the classification of drugs is clear and is judged by a selection of highly qualified scientists. The process to know what is banned is also simple and protects the athletes. All they have to do is check online and if ambiguous then check with ASADA. In both cases they provide a receipt of the ruling on a drug and that covers you as an athlete. If an EFC player had checked Thymosin they would have been directed to contact ASADA and told TB4 is banned. If they got contrary advice they would have the receipt and be in the clear. No one has produced a receipt to our knowledge, that again indicates a dereliction of duties for the players and staff.
-
If you re read what I said you may find that I never actually said they have been found to have taken banned substances. Any other facts that aren't facts that I actually said?
-
Which bit is not a fact?
-
I take it then that you have no reply to the facts I put forward and that the players did have intent and that that is backed by precedent.
-
What about the rest of the post? The subpoena was only a very small part of it.
-
The federal court case is separate from the AFL investigation and the charges in the attached file. They also didn't fail to subpoena them to the Federal court as they never tried. There are three cases/trials here you seem to have confused. 1: The AFL charges for bringing the game into disrepute. This is what the charge sheet relates to. This was decided on by the AFl commission, there was no court involved and no subpoenas sought or issued. The charges were based on the interim report from ASADA and the AFL should have waited for the final ASADA report before acting. ASADA were not happy the AFL acted and this caused division between ASADA and the AFL. The AFL acted here to try and put a dampener on the whole thing in an attempt to cover it up as much as possible. 2: Hird and EFC took the AFL and ASADA to court to try and show that their investigation was illegal in an attempt to get the whole show shut down. They failed dismally and Hird then tried again and failed again. Investigation stands. 3: AFL tribunal sit after the issuance of infraction notices to the players. This is where subpoenas were sought and due to the nature of the tribunal they failed in this attempt. This was highlighted as a failing int eh process by the tribunal as key testimony could not be tested by the tribunal. These are three separate actions and have now been followed by an appeal of the AFL tribunal decision by WADA. I agree the government went too strong and probably should have stayed out of it all together but that is politics for you. That in no way lessens the wrongs done or justifies why they have been pursued for this long and this hard. You assertion that the players had no intent to take banned substances is also flawed. How can they show they had no intent? They intended to trust the club and to take what was asked, they did not go to their managers, or more importantly to ASADA to ask what was not banned. They were negligent in their responsibilities as athletes (I don't consider them elite as they are not compared to other athletes I know from other sports, just look at their drinking to see why). Only after months of injections did they do anything to even seem to attempt to ensure they were not cheating, and even then the form they signed contained an ambiguous substance that if they did 2 minutes checking they would have seen was banned. That points to a lack of intent to be sure not to cheat and a clear intent to follow the club no matter what. If the clubs intention was to inject banned substances (knowingly or not) then that was the intent of the players as well. There was a young gymnast at the last Olympics, or maybe the one before who followed what her coach wanted and didn't intend to cheat, but he intended to inject her with banned substances, and did so. She lost her medal and was banned for 2 years, she was 13 or so from memory. The coach was banned for life. It is laughable that adult footballers can not be held to the same standard.
