Getting a little tired of Jeffy and his cameo appearances. Just does not do enough. Nothing will change. On Sunday, he had a mate in Melksham who looked disinterested and unable or unwilling to impact the contest. I prefer a future with Hannon and Fritsch.

Agreed. We seemed to have no structure up forward and poor organization. Players not knowing where to run or in the wrong place. Not helped as you say by players down field bombing the ball down forward almost without looking. Compared to the Cats in that first half, we looked second rate. Again, as you say we lacked system as much down back as down forward. In that second half we were badly out marked down back, with our defenders not having the height, spring, and also being caught out of position. Yet we very nearly stole the match.

On one hand, incredibly disappointing. So much a reminder of last season. Showed so much promise in first Q then we go missing. As with last year, so close but no victory. Too many missing for too long. Too reliant on a small group of players who put in and have a real crack. Poor skills. Field kicking inaccurate, hand passes under pressure, fumbles, tackles that don't stick. We have seen it all before. Lack of composure. Some rapid ball movement but reaction time and leg speed slower than the Cats. Sadly, I think time has caught up with Lewis. The same players go missing. Game plan? Match day tactics? No apparent tactical changes on the day when we lose our way. Lets face it, the Cats performance was not great. They would have lost that game against most other sides. On the other hand, we retained the ability to scrap and win the contest. We retained the will to win despite the poor execution. Strangely, we looked rusty. There is much to work on. We can only get better. Gawn was terrific and our centre clearances impressive. Petracca looks to have come of age, and others show good signs. I liked Hogan's run and willingness to be part of the contest. Great improvement in effort and body language. McDonald was solid and showed composure. Lever can only get better. Fritisch showed great promise and loved his attack on the player despite his light frame. But we will need to get better very quickly otherwise we will drop more matches that we should win. On the basis of this game, I was disappointed but remain optimistic. There are so many Demon supporters who are just ready to explode on match day. Expectations are high. Demon fans came alive in the last Q and exploded when Gawny took his big mark. So much supporter fervour to be captured by this team.

Well, its always amazing how we can watch the same game and conclude differently. I was at the game and agree with JBs comments.

Dieter, I am trying hard to be impressed but something is stopping me.

Lets hope that his advice relates to on-field matters only. Hopefully no debriefs at the Carey penthouse.

Dees or Saints: Who breaks the drought first?
hemingway replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure, despite some poor performances, some of their young kids showed real promise in the latter half of season. Mistake to underrate them. -
No but I think we may have a fair idea. Not everything in life is evidence based.
-
Correct. A case of run with the hares and hunt with the hounds.

Fair enough Redders, however as pointed out by others, the current problem may not be the same injury but it would be hard to argue that its not related to the earlier injury. As we know, a injury may often arise due to problems with other parts of the anatomy. Hamstring, calf soreness, achilles- pain or injury referred from back etc etc

No we don't. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the media and social media, it will continue to happen. Any mug can put anything out there, and there will be a reaction. A bit like this site and indeed this thread. Everyone has an opinion or thinks they are entitled to express it, even though the person may be ignorant, lacks knowledge or is plain wrong. That's virtually the entire footy media mob. As for Wayne Carey, please......

Agree with all points. In regard to last para, you are probably right as no-one really knows, so opinion only. Its a reflection of supporters concern. A view that takes into account the mistake last season when he played prematurely, together with the 6 months recovery over summer, and continuing doubts about the timing of his comeback. And the importance to the team in ensuring that he is cherry ripe when he returns.

It's not a diagnostic problem but a healing problem that is compounded by the nature of sport. As anyone who has had plantar fasciitis can testify, it is impossible to know when things will come right. One day it can seem fine and the next day come up sore. And Jacks injury is much worse. Every time you try and increase the quantity and quality of running you run a risk of aggravating the injury. You do not try and increase the workload unless you have been able to cope with a low workload, pain free for a considerable period of time. If there is pain or discomfort, it is crazy to try and continue running. Personally, I agree with others that think he should not be considered until mid to late season or perhaps not at all this season. Make no mistake, this is a serious injury that if not managed conservatively could jeopardise Jacks career. Extreme patience is required to ensure that Jack gets back on the field and can continue his career without further interruption.

Dees have Premiership List according to King

Don't worry, if we lose some early games, the media will turn on us very quickly. From media darlings to media kicking bags. -
If last year is anything to go by, i think you maybe right. There was no perceptible change to match day tactics when we had those lapses.

Losing patience OD ? I would have thought that the last 50 years would have taught you to be patient! But I know, time is running out for all of us.

Caro digs up old wounds of Camp Fiasco on eve of season.
hemingway replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
She must need to satisfy her contractural obligations of X number of articles per month. She no doubt wrote notes to herself during the summer of what would be good copy when she returned. Anyway, Caro is back doing what she does best. Raking over old coals, dramatizing the facts (including a few of her own special comments and references to sources), placing a slant on the story, and coming to a conclusion that is always qualified. But she is very skilled at it, and it makes a good read. -
Perhaps so but folks are understandably nervous given the seriousness of the injury and the importance of the player. The abortive return last season and the changing messages this season has not helped sooth posters anxieties. Our track record of managing injuries and doubts about the expertise of our medical staff (relative to other clubs) does not help perceptions. . None of us know all the facts or real story but folks have opinions. However, we do know how important Jack is to the team and team success. Hence the anxiety. You are probably right, we don't have the foggiest idea when it's right for him to play. However, we don't want him to come back to soon and re-injure his foot with all the consequences for the season ahead. The fact that the club has decided to give Viney more time should be seen in a positive light. Ultimately, no-one can be sure whether his foot is going to stand-up to the rigors of training and weekly matches. As with other serious and chronic injuries, it will require on-going and weekly management.

Like it. Cant go to far wrong with good strong colours and simple design. Just like our traditional jumper. Makes you wonder about the myriad of different alternate strips we have worn over recent years.
-
Fair enough, you are better informed than I am. I thought that he had spent a considerable amount of time in rehab. Having said that, my main concern with Lewis this year will be his lack of pace and slowing reflexes. .
-
And would still be criticized for not providing further details and time line. A no-win for the club. Simply highlights the difficulty of knowing the length associated with healing. Just can't be sure. Also the seriousness and complexities of foot injuries in the modern game.
-
probably not loges, far too logical.
-
You would really doubt the sense of playing any player against the Cats who has niggles or who has not had recent match time, such as Lewis. We need players who can run all day and play 4 Q of high intensity footy, otherwise the Cats will run us off our feet.

The doubts about Jack's injury and likely return are growing. That does not give one confidence for a successful return. Hold him back and let him loose in the second half of the season, the most important time and when we will be needing him most.
