I graciously conceded Daisy. Just don’t shoot the messenger. A lift in post standard is required so that life doesn’t revolve around chats about bananas. A little more imagination is required otherwise the number of posters visiting this place will dissolve like an over ripe banana. We have been given a reprieve by his Gracious Highness WJ and his coterie of faithful priests. I suspect that no further warnings will be issued and unless there is a lift in interest this thread will self destruct or posters will have the rug pulled. The silience from Mr Leg is deafening. This does not bode well. Unless we hear from him by the end of the week, I would suggest the future of this thread be revisited. As the originator if this thread he should have final call on it’s future. Unless of course one views the continued existence of this thread as a charitable way to look after the mental health of OD. He did seem to go into meltdown over the possibility of boning this thing.

3 names mentioned of footballers that I thought could have made the grade or been better. Selection decisions, coaches likes and dislikes, being played out of position, loss of confidence all played a part. Lamb, Kowal, Cuthbertson. all showed glimpses of form that suggested they could be top players. But not to be.
  3. i loved Sam's attitude on the field at the end of the season, particularly his enthusiasm and his connection with his team mates . Terrific body language, a strong sense of commitment and team.
  4. Wallace, I do not rate as a judge of anything. The more I think about the trading period, the happier I feel about the outcomes for the MFC. And, the happier I feel about the performance of our key managers. We are in good hands.

Understandable predicament. Pineapple (now there's a fruit) you are one of a dying breed, respectful. It should be a catchphrase for this entire site. The Madam thing is confusing, just like opening a car door or giving way in a lift. However, increasingly, in our politically correct society, respectful behaviour becomes insulting behaviour. In your case, I would have asked the good lady whether she had tried the bananas recently. Other suggestions for building rappore and politely ensuring she gives ground would be ask questions such as; Are they in season ? When are they ripe for eating? Have you tried any lately? Are the big ones or the little ones the tastiest? How long do the hard green ones take to ripen? Perhaps just say that as a Pineapple lover you are out of your depth on the banana front and would she have any recommendations? Or simplest of all, just ask the greengrocer in a loud voice, "excuse me, I cant see the bananas. can you tell me whether you have any in the shop. Oops., I just realized that I have become sympathetic to Old Dee's defence of the humble banana. Please refer all future questions to the OD and other banana lovers who want to share their messianic message on the physical and spiritual benefits of this talisman.

    Now that’s irony

No Old I quit rum and other hard licquor many years ago. How do you think that I reached such an old and venerable age. Despite Uncles comments I am fit in both spirit and body. Your earnest fightback Old is admirable. Enough to keep the thread going for a little longer. I am prepared to concede defeat. My only problem is that it allows Uncle to ventilate his deviant thoughts and fantasies. Do you think you could moderate your banana boasting comments?

Don’t get me wrong I love the loyalty of Old Dee and even Old Bitters whose spunk is clearly waining but who reluctantly posts to maintain relevance. Rakeleg invented the thread and regards it as some authorative source or text like Mabo. Others drop in for a titillating massage but are eventually disappointed with the unsatisfactory ending. All things must end like life and civilisation. There is a higher authority in things, in this case WJ. Gentlefolk, we cannot control much in this life, in fact we cannot control anything. Things must change, things do change. Very soon your mortal bodies will be dust and this thread forgotten in the mist of time. We will not be remembered or our posts. So submit yourselves to the end. Celebrate change, new life and new beginnings just as you will do in your next life.

You missed the irony in my original post. Just a little entertaining social experiment with an outcome that was totally predictable. How whacky off-beat posters suddenly become establishment conservative and resistant to change. So defensive! Look at the Greens now. Just middle class establishment and not a radical or fresh idea in their kitbag. Bananas and a patronising deviant becomes the new normal. Even Rakeleg is sounding so establishment. And Daisy what has become of you ? How many posters post or visit this thread. A dwindling number I suspect because it offers nothing new or interesting. So it has become the repository of the few whose habit has become a life sentence. Just a mundane example of what happens when you challenge the status quo. We need new posters and new thoughts otherwise this thread will die an ignominious death. Some may predecease this thread.

My God, this is desperate stuff, written by a sad and lonely person. All good reasons to close it down bj. I recommend medication. Efexor, Prozac, Lyrica, Lithium, Tegretol, Epilim to name just a few. Epilim is my preference. You will find you can live without this thread. You too Old, just a nightly single malt and a cuddle and you will be right. Even a banana, just don't post about on this thread.

Maybe have a rest until next season. All the posters can have a well earned sabbatical and return to their other interests. A well earned rest from bananas and the peccadilloes of Uncle Bitters. It has become repetitious, predicable and hum drum. It may take on a fresh and new meaning in 2019.
  12. Assumes Max can play the entire season plus finals. Much bigger hole without our key ruck. Lets say that both are important and key acquisitions.
  13. I actually think that Preuss is the more important pick up in terms of back up and game day options

Hmmm, and here am I thinking that this is all a bit of fictional fun!

    Inanimate objects ?
  16. Clearly the case, given the players love for the man. You have to have something going for you to gain the love and respect of your playing group. I always thought that Goody lacked emotional intelligence but clearly I am wrong and as you say he keeps the important stuff in house and feeds the media with media speak.

Winnie would not have approved. A jumper being handed over by a bunch of misogynist ......... Embarrassing. Cringe. Although footy clubs are just that footy clubs not the pinnacle of enlightenment. Leave it to Eddie and the impoverished Carlton to show their desperate need to be in the spotlight. We have to maintain the high ground. .

Good question, I am not sure. Perhaps rather a Jinx. Aside from Dennis Cordner way back in the ether, there have not been many great successes at the Club in this jumper. Certainly not in the last 50 years. For me, Jesse's time in that jumper was a disappointment. And it spent a considerable amount of time in the locker.

    dream on baby
  20. It gives you a nice warm feeling when you hear May's comments. A coach that the players love, finals success, a destination club etc etc. Its like a new club. But Goodwin is at the centre of it all.

Hopefully number 1 will get a rest for a year or two.

Uncle, when you stand up in a court of law to answer the charges or offences, it will be difficult to argue a defence of "apparently but not consciously" your Honour. Particularly, once all the witnesses have been called, both participants and observers. You might want to talk to Red who probably went to school with the Judge. And you better hope the Judge is not of the fairer sex. Otherwise you will get a life sentence. Then you will have to entertain yourself in the privacy of your own nice little cell. Although probably not very different from what you get up to in your dungeon at the Manor.

Which open marriage Uncle, I have had a few. Its mainly about disappointment, recriminations, sadness, unrequited desire, selfishness, jealously with a little bit of shame thrown in at the end. Need to know more?
  24. I remember how good I felt when I saw Big Carl run out in Demon Colours for the first time. We finally had a guy to scare the pants off the opposition. Ray Biffen did also but he created mayhem in the goal square whereas Big Carl was like a marauding Hannibal coming down from the Alps. We are developing a take no prisoners team.
