U must be joking! He was one of our best! Check the stats. Watch the tackles! The problem is that the selected team was just too short. The game proved we can't rely on Watts as 2nd ruck. If you lose the prime ruck early in the match, u r stuffed, and it reduced Watts' value as the best forward. In Spencer, Pedersen, Frost out Gawn, Hannah, Harmes to be honest I would drop Smith but I doubt they will after 1 match
-
Oh what bloody nonsense! Tyson's second half was largely responsible for our winning. as to other changes, surely, with 2 compulsory outs we don't need others. Vince replaces Lewis, someone such as Pedersen for Hogan. I can't stop thinking that we played Spencer and Max together when we beat the Cats at Geelong.

Watching the replay last night, I realised just how important was T McD. And, on the face of it, Hogan has had a poor game, but he actually played well. i thought Harmes was tough at it, marked well, and I hope he retains his place.

U are dead right! Virtually no teams are st full strength on day 1. But if it gets tough and Steven is dominating would Bugg or ANB be the best tagger? ( ask Pendlebury) hannah may be a great prospect but is he what we need tomorrow? I just think this team has been picked for the future, not R1
-
If you are pumped to see this team you are easily pumped ! It is a very weak team, without Tyson, Kent, Hibberd, Frost, VdB. Bugg and Harnes are needed in R1 rather than a new kid Hannan. Spencer has played all practice matches yet is dropped. Hannan has played none and is picked. . For some reason coaches have lost direction at the last minute. I predict a thrashing . Will be happy with 60 points loss. I'm not bullshitting, I think it's an awful team

Disagree. He has been a bit stiff. Virtually the last game he played was v Geelong when we beat them at KP in2015, he played very well but was then dropped when Hogan returned. Good knock ruckman, but it's a problem that Max is like Jimmy Stynes and likes to ruck all day. I would like the 2 of them to play a bit, just to see if it worked

Bells must be ringing in your ear, and driving you mad. If Tyson wasn't BoG or 2nd to Max, then I didn't see the video!

And we did well!

How old is Harmes? A kid in football terms. there are countless examples of players improving their kicking. Last year Viney could barely kick 40m. This year he's kicking it much further, eg the set [censored] from outside 50 v St K at Etihad. Be patient with Harmes, and vent your spleen with Bernie Vince

Good man. Sorry!

I don't know if this had been mentioned earlier, but there is an odd feature about this match.. We kicked 9 goals, 8 from marks, one from VDB with a 50m kick just before half time. Our crumbing was non existent. Our forward line is , or at least, plays tall. It is vital that we have guys who can clean up after spillages. Today, we had nothing. Garlett depends on one touch gathering of the ball. If he fumbles, he is no good. Kent kicked a goal from a mark but otherwise did little near the goals. Ditto Petracca The ground looked very good but was more slippery than apparent. Players were forever falling over and there were constant fumbles, largely by MFC. Garlett's ball handling was poor. The contrast between this match and many earlier games was that in earlier games Garlett, Kennedy, Kent would have been multiple goal kickers. At present we are horribly reliant upon Garlett. If he is off, so are we. He was trying hard enough but just couldn't perform. Not certain where he fits in, but we need the pace and goal nous of Kennedy

What bloody Rubbish. Both this and the suggestion that he doesn't lead any more are equally stupid. in the first quarter Hogan was up the ground trying to lift the team.. In the second he took a mark but collided with a post and was pretty much hobbling thereafter. But he subsequently lead to CHF, marked, and missed a shot from 50m. in the second half he shouldn't have been on the ground, though he did take a mark and miss a relatively easy shot in Q3. Get off his back, for heavens' sake
-
No, he is absolutely correct. If you couldn't see it, you were not there
-
God, this is crap. Tyson was the only one of our star studded midfield to make an impression
-
Why is that 1 week? A hit behind the play surely deserves more than that!
-
Just ignores just he fact that Pederson is a surprisingly poor defender

WJ May I recommend Fitzroy Amateurs who play at the old Fitzroy oval ( Edinburgh Gardens) and who offer rolls containing excellent pork sausages even for Ajax supporters!

And there were a few, Barass included, who were no good in 1953! Even the first half of '54 was ordinary. I haven't checked but I bet that half way through the year we were not in the 4. We finished the season well, squeezed into Finals in 4th place but then won two finals before being smashed in the GF by the Bulldogs. A couple of good players retired after the 54 year, to take up employment opportunities in the bush or interstate--I often wonder how they feel about that decision. And 2 years later the best rover in the comp, Stuart Spencer retired at the absolute peak of his form to coach in Tassie. Owning and running his own service station was a big incentive when you were limited to 10 pounds per week from footy at the highest level

For some reason which I can't understand, since he has been with MFC, Pederson has been quite ok as a forward/ fillin ruck but useless in defence

Truly, it was a monumental blunder. At a dinner at the G on Friday night sponsored by past players but attended by 400 fans I kept asking the question" who is going to play on Redpath, Roughead/Campbell and Stringer?" No-one had a clue. The first person to go to Strunger was Wagner playing game 4. Soon, we had Bugg flying with Redpath, and ultimately Jetta was on him when he marked in the last quarter. Jetta! For heavens' sake! the Zone is fine but it seems to mean that no-one is given a specific job, a job they can work on watching tapes all week. I think Garland should have been given Stringer and told to play him close. Dunn should have been picked specifically for Redpath . Dunn's strength would have been a factor. Then Tom McD could have picked up the resting ruckman and become a more important rebounding force. He played well anyway. You simply can't gave a backline including Jetta, Bugg/Michie, Wagner , Hunt and Salem
-
Ridiculous assessment of Mivhie. I watched the replay last night. He was very good .
-
It's not Garland's fault! The fault lies with selectors who picked a defence which was simply too short. To see Redpath marking over Michie or Roughead over Jetta is just absurd. i said last week that a defence including all of Jetta, Hunt, Wagner and Salem is just too small. Don't tell me Redpath would gave taken all those marks against Dunn who would have played him body to body.

There is certainly a buzz about this match. More buzz than for any match I can recall in many years. however, having watched the replay of the Gold Coast match my confidence is waning. Truly our defence was poor. No better than in the awful display v Saints. The GC talls other than Lynch ( who was given some defensive attention) found themselves marking against players such as Michie ,Jetta and Vince. We smashed them in the end because of midfield dominance. We are simply undersized with the present team selection. I'm not certain that the Dogs have a bunch of talls to hurt us, but it worries me like hell. I like the look of Wagner and Hunt but we need someone of the height of OMac in place of one of them, assuming Salem regains his place on HBF

And his pass to Frost to open scoring in Q3 was brilliant. Frost did miss of course!
