  1. Gold Coast have got some talent on their list, they won’t be down forever.
  2. Hawks look good, but a long way from great. Not convinced by a lot of their younger players and the players that are coming in are not as good as the players departing. Finals team, not a premiership team. (Would give my right and left to have Clarkson at the Dees though)
  3. Am I right in saying that we wore the same one for 2016 and 17? Love that one. This round always brings out some great designs. This one’ll grow on me I’m sure.
  4. That's a matter of interpretation. Just listened to the recording on youtube and they were discussing a giant gorilla hand holding an actress outside of the Eureka Tower. Eddie then said they could 'Get Goodsy down for it.' The apology was not immediate, it came later in the program. He continued to mumble after the Goodsy comment and was bailed out by Luke Darcy. But it doesn't matter either way. Stupid, unnecessary, humourless thing to say and Goodes didn't have to listen to his apology.
  5. I don't agree with much of this, but I can see where you're coming from. However point three is very unfair to Goodes. McGuire called him a Gorilla on breakfast radio and sniggered like an eight year old. Then, much like an eight year old, he offered an apology and believed that that should be the end of that. As I have to explain to my son, an apology does not erase what you have done, and it doesn't mean that the other person has to accept. You 'offer' an apology. Goodes had every right to be angry with Eddie and he had every right to suggest that a simple sorry (not immediately of voluntarily offered mind you) would make everything magically alright between them. The King Kong comment is so cringe-worthy it makes my skin crawl; it was an old-school racist joke, like the ones I heard and even participated in in the schoolyard in the 80s.
  6. Would it be out of the realms of all possibility if they promote from within? Wouldn't be shocked to hear Josh Mahoney's being promoted yet again...
  7. That may be true, but balance that against: 65% disposal efficiency 6 1%ers for the season (OMac has 52) 2 tackles per game 2 inside 50s per game 0.7 goals per game 3 goals assists for the whole season. That’s underwhelming for a half forward who’s not been playing a defensive role. I’m a fan, but he’s massively out of form.
  8. Well, that’s probably down to opinion. The way I see it is that he confident, assured and articulate. Some may see that as arrogance, and that’s fair enough. The egocentric commentators seek to sensationalise, exaggerate, crack in jokes, make up nicknames, laugh hysterically at their own jokes and treat the viewers/listeners like they’re fools. Basically Brian Taylor and all his ‘mates’.
  9. Whatley is one of the best commentators going around and possesses a very football brain. He certainly knows his stuff and has the ability to communicate this without ego or fanfare. He and SEN aren’t a great fit though imho. Commercial drive-time radio calls upon a different skill set. ABC grandstand and the Offsiders haven’t been the same without him.
  10. What’s the opposite of running over the coach’s dog?? Whatever it is, ANB has done it.
  11. Seems to be two separate, and important issues at play. 1. Was there racist behaviours and culture in place at the suns and did the AFL and the Suns leadership act in a proper manner to see it corrected. 2. Was Wilkinson delisted, then not drafted again due to him speaking out against these actions. One sounds a lot easier to get the bottom of than the other.
  12. That's a long way off the mark. There are plenty of businesses and organisations with racist/sexist/homophobic cultures that still employ the people they overtly or inadvertently discriminate against. An issue around education (and in many cases flat out denial) is that people who undertake racist/sexist behaviours people don't know or believe that that's what they're doing. Reading between the lines, there seems to have been regular comments or 'jokes' about Wilkinson in the locker room. These comments have been described as racial and sexual in nature. When you put two and two together, you can take an educated guess at what these comments may have been. The people making these comments may not have been fully aware of the effect that these comments can have on a person. If Wilkinson then sought assistance from those in power and nothing was done to educate or correct these behaviours, then that's an institutionalised/cultural workplace issue. Same thing goes for a senior coach making slurred comments about a subordinates 'breasts' at a Christmas party. Usually, it's not the initial comments or actions, it the organisations response that is truly telling. It reads to me that Wilkinson is saying that his issues were ignored or not dealt with adequately and he wants to ensure that if someone else is in his position, they are supported.

A google search of his name brings up a bunch of match reports from WA football leagues (and a small role in the Cloud Street mini-series)
  14. Give him the keys to the place! We’ll even sign-up his big brother just to keep him happy...

I think the bigger concern would be that he seems to be living in WA, having played for Mandurah. Will be hard to get him all the way over to Victoria, and keeping him here. (Just ask his father)
  16. And that’s for the courts to decide. If his claim has merit, then maybe he’s not such a ‘pathetic human being’.
  17. Well, your’re a well adjusted, resilient individual, congratulations. You did leave black c*** off the list of things you’ve been called over the years though. Have you ever been called a black c****?? I’m a 35yo, 6’3”, straight, white male; I don’t profess to tell minorities how they should be reacting in situations I couldn’t possibly have any understanding of.
  18. It’s hard to imagine the state that the club was in when he entered. We were broken and bereft of any hope. Build him a statue.

  20. He would be crazy to sign a contract now as he's heading into some seriously good form and is finally getting a run in the midfield. Every kick, mark, handball, tackle and clearance he accumulating is seeing his price go up and up. With that said, I'm very confident that he'll stay and be rewarded with some pretty good coin.
  21. Pretty sure being called a 'black c***' in your workplace (or anywhere for that matter) falls outside of 'grievance culture'.
  22. I tend to agree. As keen as I am to see Jack back in the team, we should learn the lessons of recent history. Last year, Max was straight back in and seemed to be playing catch-up for the rest of the season; Viney was straight back in and... well, I don't need to say what happened after that. The season is long and this week is very winable without many changes. One week in the VFL to regain some match fitness and touch, then into the team for Carlton at the 'G.
  23. To think that the Brayshaw thread three weeks ago was screaming for him to be traded at fire-sale prices... We're a fickle bunch.
  24. Trengove was the clear number 2 that year. Anyone who says otherwise wasn't being particularly vocal about it at the time. FWIW, those two port pick went on Butcher and Moore... I think we definitely would have spent one of them on Butcher.
