  1. You are setting up the basis for a Premiership window here! My only change would be to add one of GWS's three Talls (to replace Clark)!

Agreed, still need a big key forward who will let Dawes go to the second best defender. I still want us to go after Tex but it's unlikely he'll leave you'd imagine.

  2. Might also read we reckon we can sign Paul for another three if we don't force him out with a successor?!

Nah, Roos said before he even signed on, that if he does stay for the extra year then that will be the absolute max for him to coach us. Wants to spend some time overseas with his family, etc, but said that he'd still love to stay at the club in some capacity.

  3. The ladder has been the most even in years, if it was like previous years and a first year GC or GWS were to top us then I'll be shattered, if we finish last, below Brisbane who have won some good games and really aren't a bad football team for where they are at regards to their rebuilding process, etc, and below Saints who have won rightly so against Essendon, GWS, us and the biggest win for them of the year against Freo, then I won't be overly shattered.

All three teams have shown promise, and Lions/Saints are far off from being as bad as we were. Glad to say we're on the right track finally, finishing last won't do us much harm.

  4. Is it a "fact" that 18/18 recruiters would've picked him over Wines, hmm in your opinion. I doubt anyone in need of a tough as nails inside mid would have recruited him over Wines, and MFC 2012 were in dire need of inside grunt.

Toumpas may very well turn out to be a great player, but the fact still remains- for what we needed at the time, we missed out on a genuine 10 year beauty, meanwhile out pick 3 is languishing in the VFL- that's a fact!

Toumpas was highly rated, it looked like we were set to get Wines at one stage but realised that Toump will slip to pick #4, so we jumped at it, the other 17 clubs would have done the exact same thing too. Obviously it doesn't look like that now, but who's not to say Toump will evolve into a gun? Players take time to develop, RE Tom Hawkins, was pretty crud to start off with, but now without him Geelong are f'd. Wines looked the goods from the start, Toump has shown signs, but was coming off serious injuries last year, now Roos is treating him as a first year player for this season.

  5. We still had Jones, Vince, Cross, Dunn, Frawley, Grimes, Watts, McDonald, Trengrove, Howe, and Pedersen

Billings, Delaney, Dunstan and Templeton had never played an AFL game before and it was their first year in the system (compared to Tyson's 3 years and Michie's 4, injuries noted but they are still 3-4 years older)

I get what you mean, and to be fair we also had Garland and Hogan out, but I think people need to have some perspective when talking about St Kilda's list; they still beat us when seriously undermanned with very little experience.

Nah fully agreed, they deserved it. TMac went down with injury that's when Riewoldt turned it up, and it hurts when we kick 6 goals 15 behinds. It was ours for the taking but with due respect they took it.

  6. Ironically when they beat us in Round 1 they had 5 debutantes and no Stevens, no Hayes and no Montagna....

Their mad rush for top 20 draft picks last season doesn't seem to insane. I'd like to see Roos take the same approach this season, because whilst I think he is a good coach, I think he is an even better developer (just look at Sydney's depth).

Got to try and get some value from fringe players. It's a tall order to get something for players who can't get a game in one of the worst lists in the league.

To be fair we also had outs too, Jamar, Dawes, Viney, Kent, etc. We also had debutants and first Melbourne year players in Viv, Tyson, etc, who are all still young with the exception of obviously Vince and Cross.

  7. I don't know what he'd cost, but throw the sink at Joshua Kelly.

Kelly is just class, doesn't waste much, absolute ball magnet.

I don't know why Cameron keeps playing Kelly as sub, he is nearly their best player.

Kelly does more in one quarter than Scully does in 3 games.

I guess you can't remember the games where he's had next to no disposals then...
