Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Instead of the Charlie Cameron pick we need to be asking Adelaide for their 2018 first round pick. They probably won't make top 4, and in fact could drop out of the top 6. It would be good if a club didn't bend us over at the trade table for once.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
You want to throw Dustbin under the bus? You not satisfied with the previous hatchet job the media did on the poor kid? Anyway, it wasn't Martin. Judging by the responses on big footy to the latest incident the player wasn't a star player (even though he has been referred to as one in the media).

I didn't see any tattoos on her - just a premiership medal.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
If they want our 2017 & 18 first round picks, fine. But we want their 2018 first round pick included in the Lever deal. Out: 2017 FIRST & SECOND PICK, 2018 FIRST ROUND PICK. In: LEVER & ADELAIDE 2018 FIRST ROUND PICK.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC
Different players. Kennedy may have made it had we not had Viney and Oliver come on as well as they have. Early last year Kennedy was actually up to AFL level, and was playing good football. Balic is a different player to Kennedy. Balic has more tools, and has a frame more suited to AFL football (IMO). He will need to hone his strengths though, because he isn't going to find the ball as much as someone like Kennedy, so when Balic does get the ball he is going to need to do something with it. I wanted us to draft Balic the year Freo took him. I thought they got a steal, so I'd be happy to land him.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BALIC
I think he will be a starter. He has a bit more class than many on the fringe. He was a good ball user as a junior. We need good ball users. I actually think Balic will be a steal. He is very capable. He has class and moves well. Providing he completes a pre-season I expect he will play over 15 games next year.

Balic can play. He will be a starter.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
If players are disgruntled then good. I hope they are. I hope our precious players are made to feel really uncomfortable. They are going to have to start getting uncomfortable if they want to win a flag. They are going to have to fight for everything they have. I like that. I am no Goodwin fan, but if he is starting to p*ss off our playing list then he has my full support.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
I have always liked: IN - Jake Lever AND Adelaide 2018 first round pick. OUT: Melbourne 2017 first AND second round pick, and 2018 first round pick. I have seen this mentioned before, and on big footy a month or so back. I read something in draft and trading the other day about proposing this to Adelaide if they wanted to get nasty. That way both clubs could put up their 2018 first round pick and bet on having a good year. This is the trade I would make in a heart beat. It would say to Adelaide "Look, if you don't like our 2017 first and second round pick, then we will exchange your 2018 first round picks". It is a big FU to a club that thinks they are being hard nosed. It is saying to them "right, if you think you are all that then put your money where your mouth is". We may be able to bluff them into giving up Lever, and their 2018 first round pick. Considering we didn't even make the finals this year, and Adelaide made the top 4 - they SHOULD back themselves in with that deal. Hopefully if made they dropped out of the 8 in 2018 and we made the top 4 (which we will).

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
I think most clubs in the league would give up 2 top 5 selections for Oliver.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Ok, so I assume that is our starting point, and that is their starting point. Our firm position is that we will not give away two first round selections - and their desire is two first round selections. If Adelaide want to back themselves in, I think we could do (and I seen this on big footy - but thought it was a good deal for both parties) Melbourne IN: Lever and Adelaide 2018 first round pick. Melbourne OUT: 2017 first and second round pick, and 2018 first round pick. Adelaide IN: Melbourne 2017 first and second round pick, and 2018 first round pick. Adelaide OUT: Lever and 2018 first round pick. What are your thoughts on that?

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
If I were Kelly and heard Lever was coming to MFC, I would take unders to come here. If Kelly and Lever were to come to the club - we would be a dynasty side.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
If Petracca has a break out season there may be a bidding way for him.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
I would do our 2017 first and second round pick, and a swap of first round picks in 2018.

Welcome to Demonland: Bayley Fritsch
I wonder if this kid will even make it through to our second pick. He does look the goods, and he wouldn't have went unnoticed among other clubs this year.

End of year delistings
Ironically, the only hope we have of getting Josh Kelly is if he wants to play with his mate Salem.
-
Josh Kelly
Kelly and Lever and we have a dream team. Even landing one of them would be great. I can't see why either of them wouldn't want to play at MFC. We have one of the best young lists in the league. If Kelly chooses North over Melbourne then I'd question whether he was the full quid.

Clarence Oliver
I think Oliver will poll very well. I think he could even be a danger to Martin.

Glaring weakness in defence
Lever is tremendous. What a talent. At 194cm's he has a great leap. I have zero concerns about his height. I never actually thought Lever would be up for grabs - but he hasn't re-signed. Maybe he is up for grabs. He did seem adamant mid year that he was just waiting for the CBA to be announced, and then signing sounded as if it was a mere formality. But, he still hasn't signed. So assuming he is on the market he would be a good get. The 194 cm's I don't think is a concern, if anything it is a positive, because Lever could play stints in the midfield. We haven't seen that yet from him at the Crows, but that is what he is capable of.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
His skills are overrated. I have always thought Lewis is more of an accumulator. Not a very effective player though. But I tell you what, he was tough at Hawthorn, I give him that much, he was actually a tough guy, he went in hard, and he was a ballsy player. At Melbourne he is not very tough. He is more of a squib. Anytime that ball hits the deck he doesn't want it, he panics and he fumbles. I think he has mentally checked out.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis
well and truly cooked IMO. Going on 'well done' with another couple of years to run on his contract. I'd move him into a coaching role at the end of the year.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Oscar McDonald is developing really well. We forget that he is a young defender, and he is learning his craft on the job. I think he is coming off of his best month of football. He is improving at a rate I wouldn't of anticipated. He is starting to look more balanced as the weeks go on. So much improvement still left to come. IMO you are being harsh on OMAC.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Probably cuts. It may help with headaches caused by impact vs no helmets. If you think about a skull with no helmet smashing against another skull with no helmet, it is plausible that a helmet could cushion the impact a little. It may help with lessening the chance of getting a cracking headache, but I am led to the believe the damage to the brain is similar either way.
