  1. So far he has been a flash in the pan. If he is that good then why have Hawthorn discarded him? It must be serious for them to eject him. The bigger question is the player and where he is at. rpfc is correct in saying he probably needs some time out of the AFL rat race to determine thats where he wants to be. And a bloke like Krakouer is doing that. If Petersen issues are serious and he is serious about dealing with them then he should undertaking Reach or other services to his own benefit.
  2. Depending on the extent of the problems I am not sure I would take him. Clubs only put extra time into players where there is a feasible and reasonable assessment that the player will be able to turnaround and become a positive input into the Clubs objective relative to alternative options in the market place. A Club has a finite resource base to "develop" players. If they dig deep for one player they must take away from the remaining players who would otherwise draw upon those resources. The FD would want to be sure that there is a reasonable prospect that the player can develop the mindset to exploit the talent. I am not sure Sylvia is a good example of what your saying. We took Sylvia as pick 3 in the 2003 draft. As we move into 2011 we are awaiting Sylvia's big breakout year. Lots of promise and some great one off games but I wonder if MFC would have drafted Sylvia with that pick if they knew about the LT injury/fitness that would give rise to a long lead time of performance which at the end of 2010 is still to be fulfilled. The FD should be in the best position to assess this situation and they have a history of being more judicial and considered than many poster here in their preparedness to often "punt" rookie picks.
  3. You're right a torn ACL is nothing when its for a good (and fun) cause as this.
  4. At the end of the day MFC is a football club and the what you are outlining for Petersen is intensive high maintenance oversight of one player to the detriment of others. And there is no certainty he will be anything. And he will have to be very good to justify all the upfront effort. There may be better bets without the off field price tags. Krakouer is a different case. Hit rock bottom andhas turned his life around including winning a Sandover Medal in WAFL playing seriously good football. To do that you have to show a few traits that may interest AFL talent scouts. But what has Petersen shown to date? Just blown opportunities.....
  5. Nice pick up. ...all be it without the facts. Simple as that.
  6. I am not sure they may not re rookie Newton anyway. Its not a matter if deserving a junket. The FD had made a call on Millers career and to Millers benefit it allowed him to explore opportunities with other Clubs. Exactly. The game is so fluid that he floats through there enough. And its a good point on the Jetta chase.
  7. Look its a bit much for Bailey isnt it?? He apparently does not have a plan B!! Considering it for plan X...is that when where 10 goals up with 10 minutes to go and the coach says "Hang it lets move Frawley into the centre!"? B)
  8. Glad your experience taught you to lump them in one category.
  9. Please no injuries to any MFC player. I would hate a nasty injury to occur in such a frivolous waste of time like the Irish series. As much credibility as the Grand Final sprint.
  10. Why do we want to take our No 1 AA defender and the cornerstone of our very good defence and put him in the midfield where we have a glut of players we are wanting to put through the midfield that would be better suited to that role? I am sure Frawley is capable of playing good football anywhere but for the sake of the team's interests why cant we leave him where he benefits us most?
  11. Nasher picked me up for the decade error. Doh! 2004 he was sensational. In 2005 and 2006, the centre rule killed his impact in the ruck. I ma not sure 3 years ago or more Jamar warranted more game time. He just could not get his hands on the ball Its a catch 22. Jolly leaving left us in a hole which was not covered by PJ recruitment or the lack of rookieing a capable ruckman.
  12. And plenty dont. Caveat emptor. The Hawks have recently won a flag and are a successful club on and off the field and.... yeah its probably the wrong environment for him.
  13. Player that can "play" but dont have the attitude are a dime a dozen. Caveat Emptor for fools gold. And if there is "gold" to be found and the Hawks have cut him as part of a bigger offload it should raise serious questions. Thats Ok then.
  14. Its six places on the main list from which you can potentially draw from in the H & A season. 5 (4 with Tuck) on the rookie list which are for the future or an opportunity based on a contingency. The decision for main list is not necessarily the same for rookie list. All we know about the draft is that GC and GWS have priority picks. We dont how good or deep the talent in any draft will be until 5 years down the track. However the FD can make a valid assessment after x years on individual players. If the HFD has made the decision on players that they are not up to AFL footy for one or more reasons then why keep them regardless?
  15. Brown chose to leave. Croad was crippled and has not played since the 2008 GF. I dont think either player would have significantly impacted the decisions made by the HFD on the main list delists. But I think you realise that. Exactly. I only hope that the youth stockpiled MFC proves to be more effective than the Thorp, Dowler and Mustons collected by HFC.
  16. He played the majorty of his football on the wing but that does not detract from the points made that he had proven himself in other positions. A half back flanker is not necessarily at outside player and Flower was definitely not an outside player. He had the ability to win his own contested ball within packs as well as look brilliant in the open at the G. Over his career he missed very little football and given his prominence was the subject of consistent physical attention from opposition players (before the days of multiple cameras at the ground). In his final year he played midfield until he broke a finger half way through the year. He continued to play under pain killers and was pivotal up forward particular in the two finals and the famous R22 match. He kicked 47 goals for the year which belies the erroneous comment about the pension fund. And your reference to his disclocated shoulder sustained in a contact injury against Dipper is irrelevant to the point about his capabilities as a footballer to capably play a multitude of positions.
  17. Dont let the stats fool you. North were already building a premiership around Carey. He was already a 4 year star in the VFL and one of the best around when Schwartz put in his stellar 1994. Its a case of coulda, woulda, shoulda for the Ox who we will never know what would have happen. A talented player on a rise when cruelled by injury. Nevertheless its an overwaxed comparison by posters here to quell the disappointment of the injury. Could not be more wrong. Flower played all over the ground and starred. While the wing was his home, Barassi had him off the half back line. In his only finals series and in his final year , Flower was potent up forward. As a State player he played in a number of positions against the best and I recall him tearing Glendinning (at his peak) apart at CHB against WA and receiving BOG honours. With Flower's superior skill set he could have played and did anywhere (bar ruck)
  18. That's garbage. When fit pre 1995, White was an athletic ruckman who was able to singlehandedly dominate the ruck for long periods. In 1994 White was AA ruck when Jolly left. For the record, Jolly was injured for alot of 1994 and performed poorly. Jollys initial opportunity came because Simmonds wanted to be a first ruck and sort a trade. And you can only have one of those in a team. Jolly wanted something similar and went to Sydney where he spent his first year there feeling the pine to Jason Ball. When Jolly went he opened opportunities for Jamar. Jamar by his own admission was not held back by White but by this own performances. Damn facts. Great season by Jamar and I agree with Nasher. B)
  19. I would want a player that would perform not just have natural gifts as footballer. You are entitled to your opinion but I am not sure Charles showed enough that was better than what Flower showed in crud teams for 13 years.
  20. The Ox was a very talented footballer whose future was cruelled by knee injuries. After showing promise in 1991 to 1993, he blossomed in 1994. He could have been something. Unfortunately, we will never know. But at the end of 1994, he was on a trajectory but he was not in Carey's sphere. Carey dominated VFL/AFL football in the 1990s from his first season on. Ox was good but the Carey comparison is over hyped on this Forum. My substitute based on the best player I have seen is the great Robbie Flower. And I would be arranging a substitute in the first 10 seconds of play to get him on the field on the MCC member wing and would not ever interchange him.
  21. From the 11 players cut, 5 are rookies. They cut six from their list and cleaned out their rookie allocation. There is a likelihood one of the cut (Tuck ) will be rookied. Hale has effectively cut Taylor and Skipper out of the equation. Muston and Dowler are injury prone. Tuck has life issues and Hooper was a spec pick up from Brisbane that has failed. Lets temper the gasp of the decision with the facts. List management is about judgement calls on players. They have made them and they believe they can identify better future prospects through the draft.I am not sure its that its sensible to re sign players that you dont think are going to make the grade. I am not sure they have cut any critical players here.
  22. Brent Renouf might have a say in that. And if Bailey can tape his right knee back together then...
  23. 3 ACL's says..... Thanks. I knew there was something else.
  24. Relax. They are spare tyres. A couple of them were small sized with punctures.
