  1. Thought it was Chunks best game for a long time, besides 1 howler, his disposal looked to improve about 50% over the summer. Might be Lewis's influence or just a bit of maturity in his game but he looked fantastic, maybe he's annoyed he's missed out on the BnF the last couple of years after having a mortgage on it!
  2. My point wasn't about clangers as such, anyone can get ahead of themselves and fumble a mark or two grab a ground ball. I was talking about out and out howlers, both Jones and Lewis both kicked the ball straight to Saints players. While OMac might extend himself a little more than he's capable of at the moment (although i actually love that he's not afraid to take the game on - even if he does make the odd mistake), he gets crucified more than anyone else (the new Watts). The calls for him to go back to Casey, really won't do much for him long term either, AFL listed big forwards and backs and normally significantly stronger (and better) than anything at a lower level so you want them learning to compete against the best, and take the odd 'clanger, mistake, howler' because the end result will be much better. I think it's much like the debate about starting Pedo over Weid, I think if were serious about not only making but winning finals we need the Weid up and going while Pedo is handy back up at best.
  3. There ads are all about things being mixed up, so it's likely to be deliberate
  4. Not sure if I watched the same game as the rest of you. Oscar had less howlers than Lewis, Vince and Jones. He's role is the spoil and he did that really well I thought. He's not the most polished player yet but there's no doubt he'll be best 22 every week if he plays like that
  5. 100% correct, no point getting upset that we've got less members than another club who's giving them out. I've never seen a list (nor do I know if it exists) to show what revenue each clubs membership brings in (as a net figure) - making sure to deduct any allowance's for membership give away's etc. I think we'd be reasonably competitve in the area.
  6. Not at all disappointed with the result, if you look, our main mids played significantly less game time than the eagles and what I expect they would in a normal game. So we'll get some natural improvement there. Plus Tyson will be better for the run. We really missed the forward pressure of Kent and Garlett, not to say ANB did a bad job, I think we need 2 players in that role and not sure if anyone else helped lock the ball in that well forward 50, I don't expect Hoges/Weid/Watts to be doing it to the same level as Jeffy/Kent/ANB/JHK/AVB can do. Loved Oliver, I've always thought Viney was like a freight train coming through packs, well Oliver's like bullet train hitting them with speed and force. If they every run into each other full force it'll leave a massive dent in whatever oval there on.
  7. Don't know if the results of the scans have been reported anywhere have they? At least not from the club as far as I know. Edit - happy to have this information be incorrect and only an ankle sprain or something minor.
  8. This was my initial reaction too, but Membery is only 188cm, so I don't think needs a massive tall on him and if Hibberd is fit I think would be our perfect match up on him. Not saying Smith would be out, but in form and fit I think Hibberd gets a game. I expect he might be like Milkshake and be much better in his second JLT game.
  9. I suspect that given this is a Casey warm up game, and KC implied there might not be many/if any Dee's in the team that were not promoting it because it's not worth promoting. It's nice the game is on and we're taking the Redtails through the club, having them meet coaches etc. but there's a good chance if we promoted it like some are saying, then had the guys play who haven't had a run in JLT yet that it could be a very messy 100+ point win. Which goes against what the game is meant to be, to grow the connection between MFC and NT football in general. You don't win many friend handing out floggings.
  10. Would have been better if we were also playing the giants in the JLT and formed a proper double header. Not sure why the AFL didn't look at this for all clubs with women's teams, surely it would boost the attendance and TV ratings.
  11. Provided we get the win, we probably need Bris to be Adel, then we've got Adel next up and if we win that we'd move into the top 2. Otherwise we'll be hoping that Bris drop one other game, but it take's some of our destiny out of our hands.
  12. I love that on the 40th article on Watts this week on the AFL site, there's a picture of Goody holding a bag while Jack jumps to take a mark. Shows that he hasn't just been left out with a cold shoulder. I'm sure there's a reason, which I suspect is very minor, as to why he's not playing and I like that the coach (not an assistant) is right there with him. I'm sure some coaches would pass the information down the line and watch from a far.
  13. Great news, looking at the contracts page, Weids was one of the 2 signings I think we really needed, so to do it so early is a great sign. Plus it'll annoy those pie fans who think because of his name they have a god given right to him.
  14. Sounds like Frost may have a small niggle (not sure what), but the AFL article the other day said at training he was just doing boxing on the sidelines with Jeffy, who's now out. We've still got a spot on the main list to fill, so wouldn't be surprised to see J Smith upgraded regardless of Frost's availability, particually now with Wag's injury.
  15. I hope they rest Hogan, he seemed to do something to his knee late against the dogs, although he did stay out on the ground but there was only minutes to go in the game. He hurt his knee last year (Hawks game I think) and kept playing and wasn't the same, so rest him for a couple of weeks, even send him back to WA early cause our last JTL game is against Meth Coast over there.
  16. Glad we've got 5 weeks or so before the saints, hoges seemed to jar his knee a bit and last season when he did during similar he was off for the last few games. He looked great and set for a huge year, but it might pay to give him a spell at least next week
  17. I actually thought vanders was good, is more of a stay at home half forward flank while the others (brayshaw etc) went roaming. He provided a great link. Might be competing with a fully fit Kent but think he'll play a fair few games
  18. On that Saty (or any of the regular track watchers), have you noticed who besides Gawn, Pencil and the young rucks doing any ruck work? Speciffically if Watts or Frost have been doing much, if any? As an extension to that have Gawn or Pencil being doing much forward work?
  19. That's very true, just got to listen to Mick Turner talk up anyone from the Falcons, they're all superstars. Either way I'm very impressed by the way Oscar improved last year and hope he does turn out as good, if not better than his brother.
  20. Not doubting yours at all, my info came from when they were at the Rebels, but grain of salt whenever any junior watching is concerned I suppose.
  21. I wouldn't read too much into this. I'd be guessing that it's much easier to develop mids at VFL level than it is for key position players, especially defenders. The key forwards in the AFL are considerably bigger than those at VFL level (most are either undersized - example Tim Smith or developing - example the Weid), whereas a lot of the mids would be roughly the same size as those in the AFL. I thought Oscar's improvement was outstanding and I really hope his confidence continues to grow. I know a lot who had both Tom and Oscar at junior level and have said Oscar was far better than Tom, that might not end up the case at senior level but if it did we'd have a very formidable CHB/FB combo.
  22. Depends if you're looking at it from a bonding point of view or a decision making exercise. It's often easy to get away with things at training because their fresh and probably not going as hard as you would against an actual opponent, therefore their decision making should be slightly easier. I'm hoping by putting them under stress that'll help at the back end of an important game. Still will probably only make a small % difference.
  23. Think your right, he's going to be one of those guys (dangerfield, fyfe etc - not saying he will be as good - just examples) who's going to do more than the occasional helicopter kick or even brain fade. However for me, for Hunt to jump up to the elite or become first class he needs to get more of the ball. He only cracked 20 possessions twice last year, and although he's not going to need 30+ weekly to be valuable if he were to average 20/21/22 touches then he'll make the jump. So another 5 to 6 more touches a game, that will naturally get him more involved and that's all he needs.
