  1. We will wait and see how Hocking and the Cats go.

There is no need for anyone to do a Saints style rebuild, that's a recipe for disaster and we should know.

The cats were starting to slip, in my opinion, and there's not many better to have in charge than Hock.

I think the cats might suffer a lull but will remain a strong finals contender for a long time with him there.

  2. Equally, if you are correct, but Carlton are putrid in 2015, as most fully expect them to be, surely they'll knock themselves out of the running.

Like Frawley last year, Dangers may be leaning toward Geelong, but only a fool would make a decision this far out with so much water to go under the bridge.

  3. My word is, and not from Judd's grandmother, is that Dangerfield is no chance to come to us. He knocked us back during the last trade period. It's between Geelong and Carlton.

Sounds about right, but I think as the season progresses, if we show strong form, we could re-enter ourselves into the equation.

Waiting another year and getting for free what we would have paid handsomely for last year, would be ever so sweet.

  4. Geelong are definitely the front runners in the race to sign Danger. He met up with Chris Scott for a 2 hour long chat on the 2nd Jan at Skilled.

    Like Frawley last year?

Don't kid yourself, there are a lot of teams in the running, and plenty of 2 hour long chats have been held.

I'd say we have just as much chance of getting him as Geelong.

  5. This.

The hallmark of a good midfielder is that they are "good in heavy traffic". Don't know why more posters can't be the same - take Saty's reports for the good info they provide, and skip over what they don't like about his fanboy/poster baiting mode. Maybe concentrate on the sausage not the sizzle, the doughnut not the hole…...

Thumbs up for the good info you add, Saty.

Uh... No... It's because they understand that it's easy to keep feeding basic lines of stock standard sh!t to serial sh!t stirrers with idle hands because they know he's going to turn up tomorrow anyway and its better than getting them offside.

The training reports are sometimes enjoyable and informative, but more frequently are simply as self-indulgent as the username.

  6. Melbourne did heat training in Darwin previously under Neeld, not sure why it was scrapped. Financial reasons maybe?

    Not sure.

Port have had success in the hot dry climate of Dubai.

Maybe the excessive humidity is an obstacle?

My decidedly unexpert opinion is that the inability to train for long periods is counterproductive.

You want to make it harder, but not impossible.

  7. Out of interest does Hawthorn, Sydney or Geelong do altitude training? I think Port did some this year/last year.

None of them do altitude training.

Port did heat training in Dubai, which is now said to be more beneficial than high altitude.

In the heat the blood becomes more viscous, and your heart has to work harder to pump it around your body.

  8. If Jordie is getting a game in 2015 then we have not developed or improved as a team as much as we all wish / need to.

Or alternatively McKenzie has improved exponentially...

Very impressed with White's reported placing in the time trial.

I keep forgetting who he is, and thinking "Jeff is still at the club?"

Didn't realise he was such a good runner, but he beat a few that are lauded for their running ability, at the same stage of their careers (Brayshaw and Stretch) and even Toumpas has a couple of years in the system on him.

Great effort at this early stage. Maybe a decent fine for us, although not going to participate in the hyperbole.

  9. Yep, 100% agree especially with bolded part. I see it in junior basketball. Young players with a flawed shooting technique. Unless you are an athletic center who can block and rebound you need to have a reliable shooting technique.

If it is not sorted by say age 13 (assuming they have not just started playing bball and have been playing for some years previously - with thousands of shots with incorrect technique forging their muscle memory) they're stuffed and will have a ceiling imposed on how far they can go. Quality coaching is crucial

Not so sure. At about 14 or 15 my shooting action was so broke it was ugly, different but as extreme as Shawn Marion ugly.

It wasn't working, and I started copying Andrew Gaze's technique and kept working with it.

Now I'm a semi-reliable shot from the 3pt line and anywhere inside.

  10. Sorry for having an opinion that doesn't match yours.

Michie's exposed kicking so far has been average.

He hits easy straightforward targets for the most part and nothing more.

To label it a "weapon" is wrong in my opinion.

You've picked holes in the kicking of other players who I never said were perfect, but I'm yet to see anyone say what makes Michie such a damaging kick or when he has displayed this.

  11. Michie is capable of safe little chip kicks, or simple kicks down the line, but a "weapon"?

    You've gotta be kidding.

Terlich for one, suffers from attempting to execute kicks to ill-advised targets, that his level of precision can't always achieve, but I think he has more skill. He's not necessarily a better decision maker.

I will start a list: Watts, Toumpas, Salem, JKH, N Jones, Viney, Hogan, Garland, Lumumba, Garlett, Vince, Tyson, King, Brayshaw, Petracca, Dunn, Stretch, Kent, Newton, Howe & Jetta.

I put Michie on about the same level as Bail.

  12. Has Viv been training in the midfield group or backline?

I thought his last game where he was playing off a half back showed some real promise. His kicking is such a weapon you just need the ball in this guys hand to set us up.

Viv Michie's kicking is "a weapon"?

Which Viv Michie have you been watching?

He's an adequate kick at best. There's about 20 players on the list that would be better kicks.

Terlich is probably a better kick. Mind-boggling comment.

  13. I think the potential trade to Richmond was the last straw for Trengove.

If he can get over his injury, I feel he needs a change of scenary, a fresh start to realise his talents and use his strong character to advantage.

I can forsee a good will trade happening next year much like the Garlett trade where we exchanged picks with Carlton in the 50's and 60's.

I personally hope he stays if his injury comes good.

Idle speculation by an idle mind...
