Delistings/trades at end of the season
As I've mentioned before, Mark Robinson has alluded to Prestia using the "unsafe workplace" argument if push comes to shove. Not sure I'm a fan, but if we're in the winning side of that argument...

I think they'd ask for more. Whether they'll get it is another question.

Pick 5, as much as you'd like it to be a bankable star, is just as likely to produce an O'Rourke, Plowman, Morton, a Jarrad Grant, a Bennell, a Scully, a Hurley, even a Toumpas (don't get me wrong, he has time & I like the progress the kid has shown this year). A Gumbleton, Hansen or Leuenberger, even a Gibbs, who took longer than Watts to show enough. Plenty of solid players, but few of those names are stars. I think for a top 5 pick to turn out to be as good as Prestia is a very good result. Any better is pure luck and quite rare.

I have no doubt Garland is a required player. I just think it demonstrates that Garland also does not have a foot out the door and an eye on his wallet either.

I wonder if any noticed it shown on AFL360 (or possibly the telecast itself) after the Geelong win, when Roosy came into the rooms seconds after the win, Garland in his civvies with a big grin on his face, giving Roosy a big hug. I think they have a strong enough relationship & I don't think Garland will be going anywhere. We'll see.

Tigers want everyone. It's a sound strategy for them though, going for more mature talent, in a year when their earliest picks are likely to yield lesser talent than most years. Not sure they have the resources to pull many trades off though. Berger wouldn't surprise, with Maric getting on & not much decent ruck depth.

I heard Mark Robinson saying that Prestia might be angling for a move away from GC, and that with a year on his contract he may even use the "unsafe workplace" argument in relation to the club drug culture. No destinations were specified, but I bet his family would be angling pretty hard to get him to MFC. My biggest worry is list balance. We simply can't have too many small mids. Hopefully Tyson, Vanders, Petracca & Brayshaw provide enough size.

Treloar and Shiel were never realistic targets in my opinion. Prestia & Coniglio would be mine, albeit still unrealistic.

Matt Jones isn't the problem. Him being in a position to play AFL games for MFC is the problem.

And again, after the horrendous holding the ball, all he needed to do was tap the ball ahead to Garlett... Cost us a straightforward goal. He's had long enough and just isn't up to it. I love Grimes for his endeavour, but those shocking kicks along the boundary line are still a big part of his game.

I thought this thread was in bad taste... But after seeing Bail on the field again, I can confidently say that he should never play AFL again.

I, for one, could easily be one of those accused of following group think, being fickle and of succumbing to confirmation bias, or whatever accusations want to be thrown around. Simply, I thought Frawley one of our best and most important players, simply because I highly rate his ability and think his type is quite rare. But I also realised pretty quickly that I grossly overrated the difficulty and cost of acquiring a suitable mature-bodied replacement. I'm confident in Frost's ability, and he has has more years left in him than Frawley. I think we have done very very well for ourselves.

I'm very pleased with the way things have turned out. Whilst I kept trying to console myself with the fact McCartin was highly rated and we'd have 2 blue chip key forwards, the envy of a lot of teams, I just couldn't see it. I'm sure McCartin will be a capable player. Good attitude. Competitive. Big enough. But probably not as big as I'd like. What are the attributes that set him apart? I don't see competitiveness and aggression like you see in Hogan or Viney. He doesn't get knocked over on field, but he doesn't knock too many others over, and won't when they're his size and bigger. Not particularly fast or agile, average at ground level for his size, not amazing endurance. For all the hype of him being a "one grab" KPF, I recall seeing him juggle a lot of marks as his smaller opponents fell over around him. Kicking is decidedly average. I think St Kilda was sold on the player they need him to be rather than the one he is or will be. I'm not trying to talk McCartin down. I'm just delirious to have 2 blue chip mids, exactly what we need, instead of 1 and a forward that I'm not convinced on, despite him being firmly in the spotlight for 2 years +.

I'd agree. I wasn't talking in terms of personality. But he's not a leader either. And I think that might count against him for St Kilda.

He's a carbon copy of... dare I say it... Colin Sylvia.
-
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHRISTIAN PETRACCA
Give him a break! He's only 18! You do realise that Sylvia was 18 once too? Chances are that some of these kids will turn into Sylvias... It's all crystal ball gazing, but I'm not sure it's a good sign when he says he's hyper and drives his teammates to annoyance with his intense personality (paraphrasing). I.e. he won't be a leader of your club in my opinion, at least, not in the way that you want. Other players may follow him, but not necessarily anywhere you want them to go.

I think, if genuine, it is personality based. He's not the type of bloke you want to be a leader. He has made comments about teammates finding him annoying. Hyperactive like a diet-Jack Riewoldt or Heath Shaw.
