  1. Schache didn't kick 45 last year in the 2s. He only kicked 31 goals. The website I got this information from (and likely you too) had some matches from 2021 listed too and when added up equalled the 45 you had. In any event see below for a comparison between Schache and Brown & Weid's season in the 2s. Sam Weideman played 11 games and kicked 15 goals 17 for Casey. He spent a lot of time in the ruck late in the season. Mitch Brown played 16 games and kicked 38 goals 24 behinds for Casey. Josh Schache played 12 games and kicked 31 goals 10 behinds for Footscray Reserves Weid only took 58 marks from his 11 games, Brown took 106 marks from his 16 games and Schache took 74 from his 12 games.

  3. The energetic and hard working rookie who had limited game time at Melbourne and was unluckily suspended when his opportunity came, had an outstanding season in the VFL and was an important contributor in helping Casey win the flag. Has the opportunity to step up in 2023. "Chandler played four senior games in 2022 and was a member of the Casey Demons’ VFL premiership team, picking up 23 disposals in the grand final. Demons list manager Tim Lamb said Chandler would be promoted from the rookie list to replace Toby Bedford, who has joined the GWS Giants." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 13 January 2000 Height: 175cm Weight: 80kg Games MFC 2022: 4 Career Total: 10 Goals MFC 2022: 0 Career Total: 0 Games CDFC 2022: 17 Goals CDFC 2022: 29
  4. Taken in last year’s mid season draft, the talented key defender from Albury was Melbourne’s only first year AFL player but lasted less than half a game after suffering a facial injury against Collingwood. Returned to play in Casey’s premiership and is considered a prospect for the future. "The key defender signed a two-year contract extension in July. He will remain on the rookie list for next season before he is upgraded to the senior list for 2024. The Demons’ second selection in the 2021 mid-season rookie draft, Turner made his debut in the Queen’s Birthday clash against Collingwood but was subbed out of the match with concussion and a fracture to the face." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 28 January 2002 Height: 194cm Weight: 88kg Games MFC 2022: 1 Career Total: 1 Goals MFC 2022: 0 Career Total: 0 Games CDFC 2022: 11 Goals CDFC 2022: 1
  5. The high marking young key forward from Western Australia showed his adaptability by not only kicking goals at Casey but also stepped up to relieve in the ruck in a season that underlined his huge potential going forward info next season and beyond. "The Demons’ first-round selection at No.19 in last year’s national draft, van Rooyen is yet to make his senior debut but had an impressive first year in the VFL, kicking 36 goals. The Demons’ forward future, van Rooyen is expected to step up to the AFL grade next year." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 16 April 2003 Height: 193cm Weight: 91kg Games CDFC 2022: 18 Goals CDFC 2022: 36
  6. The club’s Next Generation Academy selection from the NT Thunder surprised as an excitement machine with great agility and some excellent skill sets including accurate kicking. Promises a lot for the future. "A product of the Next Generation Academy system, Moniz-Wakefield is yet to play an AFL game but was a member of the Casey Demons’ VFL premiership win. Signed a new contract in August to retain a spot on the rookie list for next season." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 26 October 2003 Height: 182cm Weight: 71kg Games CDFC 2022: 15 Goals CDFC 2022: 11
  7. He’s tall (191cm) and athletic, a strong mark and can play in a number of positions from a wing into the forward line. Impressive early at Casey until injured and came back to play in their premiership team. Date of Birth: 7 April 2003 Height: 191cm Weight: 79kg Games CDFC 2022: 10 Goals CDFC 2022: 4
  8. Versatile midfielder who can also play half back, wing or half forward showed definite signs of development and improvement through the year at VFL premiership team Casey as he looks to take a further step up the ranks in 2023. "The son of 2000 Brownlow medallist and former Demon Shane Woewodin arrived at the Demons as a father-son selection in last year’s draft. Is yet to play a senior game, but was a member of the Casey Demons’ premiership winning team this year." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 26 March 2003 Height: 182cm Weight: 75kg Games CDFC 2022: 18 Goals CDFC 2022: 7
  9. I'd definitely play him in whatever practice matches we have in 2023 and then take it from there.
  10. Schache was the only other player who is no longer on their list. According to Wikipedia his late father Laurence played for the Bears in the early 90s. He played 29 games and kicked 64 goals for Brisbane in 91 and 92. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurence_Schache
  11. Looked to be on his way out after playing his 200th game but reinvented himself in a forward role and put in some handy performances late in the season. Eligible for the VFL finals, he starred with four goals for Casey in the premiership decider. "The veteran forward was restricted to 11 senior games in 2022, but played the Demons’ last eight games of the season, including two finals. Also kicked four goals in Casey’s VFL flag win. Found himself in the headlines mid-year when he had to have surgery on his hand after his off-field altercation with Steven May. Out of contract but expected to sign an extension for next season." - Herald Sun Date of Birth: 29 August 1991 Height: 186cm Weight: 85kg Games MFC 2022: 11 Career Total: 208 Goals MFC 2022: 12 Career Total: 60 Games CDFC 2022: 9 Goals CDFC 2022: 8 Brownlow Medal: 1 vote
  12. Kicked his 30 goals for the season but once Tom McDonald was injured, he struggled in the as the sole key forward in the team. It will be interesting to see what role Simon Goodwin has in store for him next year. "The key forward kicked 30 goals in his second season with the Demons, in which he played 19 games. Brown battled knee soreness at times throughout the year, wear and tear issues the club said he would likely have to manage for the rest of his career." 13. This was his reasoning when ask why the Dees got a D+
  14. We were all thrilled to see a lot of the Dees back on the track shortly after winning the flag and praised them for the dedication and hunger at getting straight back into it. In hindsight it probably ended up contributing to us fizzling out the way that we did.
  15. The unicorn had to be a subtle (or not so subtle) dig at Freo and Jackson.
  16. Did you recognise anyone in particular or could they have just been 5 or 6 random people doing laps?
  17. The Gold Coast has been treated to a feast of womens football over the past couple of days. On Friday night, the Brisbane Lions claimed flag favouritism when they knocked the Adelaide Crows off their second placed perch at Metricon Stadium. Then on Saturday evening at the same venue, the Melbourne Demons consolidated their hold on that vacated second spot when, they ruthlessly smashed a finals contender in consecutive weeks, this time the home town favourites, the Suns. It was a case of the Demons dominating from the start to the very end against Gold Coast who were kept to a solitary goal while the visitors scored goals on a regular basis in their march to a 49-point victory which was enough to tip the Suns from eighth into ninth place on the ladder. Melbourne went into Pride Round somewhat depleted by injuries but that mattered little. They were in control from the get go but a single point was little to show for their dominance until well past the halfway mark of the opening term when Daisy Pearce, in her 50th game, bobbed up with a mark and the first goal of the match. This was followed in quick succession by majors from Kate Hore and Tayla Harris and by the first break, Melbourne held a handy 3.1.19 to 0.1.1 lead . It took the Suns until late in the term for them to make their first foray inside the 50 metre arc and this was the standard the Demons set for the day as they amassed an incredible 45 in that part of the ground against their opponents’ meagre 9 for the night. The measure of that superiority came from out of a midfield that managed to thrive even without injured Lauren Pearce directing the rucks. Olivia Purcell (32 disposals), Tyla Hanks (20) and Eliza West (19 and 11 tackles) were on fire and winger Lily Mithen (21 touches) added plenty of run from the outside. Little wonder then that the forwards reaped the benefit with Harris kicking three goals, and Eden Zanker and Hore two each. And on those rare occasions when the ball found itself in Melbourne’s defence, the backline stood up and Libby Birch and Shelley Heath were impassable. The Demons are now sitting pretty with their two remaining matches are at Casey Fields against teams that are out of finals contention and while there’s no room for over-confidence or complacency, they can look forward to some exciting times in the month or two ahead. 18. The Inner Sanctum’s First Round AFL Phantom Draft 2022 1. Aaron Cadman – GWS 2. Will Ashcroft – Brisbane (matched F/S bid) 3. Harry Sheezel – North Melbourne 4. George Wardlaw – North Melbourne 5. Elijah Tsatas – Essendon 6. Bailey Humphrey – Gold Coast 7. Jhye Clark – Hawthorn 8. Cam Mackenzie – Geelong 9. Rueben Ginbey – West Coast 10. Mattaes Phillipou – St Kilda 11. Jedd Busslinger – Carlton 12. Oliver Hollands – Western Bulldogs 13. Elijah Hewett – West Coast 14. Matthew Jefferson – Melbourne 15. Josh Weddle – Sydney 16. Henry Hustwaite – GWS 17. Lewis Hayes – Collingwood 18. Lachlan Cowan – Sydney 19. Jacob Konstanty – GWS “14. Matthew Jefferson Vic Metro’s best tall forward was Jefferson this year. He’s springy and quick off the mark akin to Ollie Henry, but has genuine key position height. The Dees have lost Sam Weideman and struggled without Tom McDonald in 2022 – Jefferson could be the future focal point for their forward line.”
  19. Pick 14 - Melbourne: Mattaes Phillipou Position: Midfielder/Forward Height: 192cm Weight: 83kg Clubs: PHOS/Henly HS, Woodville-West Torrens A tantalising prospect to say the least, with Phillipou looking to rival the likes of Sheezel as one of the most mercurial players in his class. The leading South Australian for 2022, Phillipou frames as a bullish midfield-forward option that can win his own ball and impact the scoreboard. The Demons are likely to be tempted by the Isaac Heeney-like talent, especially considering their own attacking livewire in Kysaiah Pickett is seen as no certainty to remain in red and blue past 2023. Standing at 192cm tall, it's Phillipou's stunning ground-ball ability that will catch opponents by surprise, while the teenager is also a fierce competitor in the air.
