I have tried similar "remove" filler words and dead air apps before and they have always made it sound unnatural and creates a lot more post production work for me than I have time for. Also I love the irony of a double post with advice on brevity. 😜

He actually doesn't have a new mic. He is using his old mic which has a broken stand so he has to use it the old fashioned way by holding it up to his mouth like he's commentating the cricket. To anyone listening live whenever Binman's voice goes in and out that is him moving the mic away from his mouth. If you listen to the podcast on one of the apps after the fact you won't hear that as the levels are fixed in post. The mic he used for a couple of weeks which sounded like he was broadcasting from a filing cabinet was an even older mic but I have a sneaking suspicion that that mic wasn't being used to capture the audio and the audio was being captured by his computer's built in mic. Having said all that even the most expensive mic will not fix all those worrisome ums.

I honestly don't recall but we used to keep him on the line for a while and eventually he claimed squatters rights and now we legally can't remove him.

It's difficult to say how the algorithms of the podcasting apps work and it's even more difficult when the podcast is extremely niche. That is, the potential audience is finite. We're 1 team out of 18 in 1 code played in only 1 country in the world. Who knows what the potential audience is? Not every Dees supporter is going to be interested in listening to a podcast. I guess the more listens a podcast gets the more that podcast will get boosted up the algorithm and the more positive feedback we receive in the form of giving the show 5 Stars and writing a review will likely do the same. Listening on the apps will boost the numbers more than by listening live so I guess having live listeners on the website might take away from that. Having said that I consider having the show live on Demonland to be a form of advertising as it might get passerbys who are having a browse to listen in for a bit and say "hey I might give that podcast a listen offline" so in effect the live show can potentially bring in new listeners on the apps. Most of the users of Demonland are readers and not posters. 80-90%. I have met many people over the years who read Demonland every single day but have never posted or even signed up.

Um, okay, so, um, we just wanted to, um, say a HUGE um, thank you? Yeah, um, thank you! For, um, your feedback on our, um, podcast. It's like, um, super important to us. Not just important, but like, um, super-duper important? Because, um, without it, how would we even, um, know if we're, um, talking into the void or, um, actually reaching human ears? I have no idea. I don't really know which gets more listeners Apple Podcast or Spotify because I don't have any metrics for Spotify. I probably cost "listeners numbers" on the app platforms by doing the live show but I like the ability to take calls from Demonlanders. We wouldn't have found @binman otherwise.
