Who's that kid?

Featured Replies

I've ehard it mentioned that there's a kid from the AIS training with Melbourne and I just discovered the answer to the riddle of his identity. According to Who's that kid? our AIS tranee is Tom Lynch.

Here's the list of the AIS trainees at the various clubs -

Adelaide – Alex Carey, Tyson Davis-Neale, Matthew Thompson.

Brisbane – Declan Bevan, Jesse Haberfield.

Carlton – Nic Heyne, Tom Hill.

Collingwood – Jack Fitzpatrick, Jack Ziebell.

Essendon – Steele Sidebottom, Jackson Trengrove.

Fremantle – Clinton Garlett, Michael Walters.

Geelong – John Butcher, Nick Suban.

Hawthorn – Tom Scully, Liam Shiels.

Kangaroos – Michael Hurley.

Melbourne – Tom Lynch.

Port Adelaide – Matthew Broadbent, Lewis Johnston.

Richmond – Sam Blease, Ben Griffiths.

St Kilda – Liam Jones, Jack Watts.

West Coast – Kieran King, Kane Lucas, Anthony Morabito.

Western Bulldogs – Ayce Cordy, Jake Melksham.

Note: No players are training with Sydney as there are no NSW/ACT players in the 30-man Academy. Scholarship holders are assigned to train with an AFL club in their own state.

It's worth noting that Melbourne drafted 4 AIS graduates in last year's national draft including Cale Morton and Jack Grimes who actually trained with us in January '07. I know Michael Hurley who's training with the Roos can play a bit and it's worth noting these names for some time later on in the year.

Does this kid have red hair?? Because i saw a young kid who i couldn't recognise

has he does have red hair

Then thats him he didnt particpate in all the training though but was fitting in well making jokes with the boys looks good

He had a knee reco last year which may be why he wasnt training fully.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing we don't have two because of financial restrictions, considering the Kangaroos are the only other clubs with just one. If that is the case, does anyone know what sort of $ clubs need to put up to take on a trainee?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
