Saintsational vs Demonland

Gidday guys just dropping in from Saintsational to discuss the prospect of another forum game with you guys?

Every summer a few of the clubs forums play games of footy against each other at Glenferrie Oval and we were wondering if you guys might like to be first cap off the rank?

The games are purely social event, with everyone welcome to play regardless of sex, age or ability.

They are usually 4 X 25 minute quarters and many of you im sure have played in the past.

They are great fun and represent an excellent chance for supporters to meet each other and have a kick or even just watch as we all 'attempt' to emulate our heroes.

There is also a BBQ area behind the ground and after the match we usually all get together and have a feed and a few beers and have a chat.

So if you are interested in playing, or even just coming along and helping out with goal umpiring, running water or whatever chuck your name down here, im sure someone will take control of the ball on this forum as has been done in the past, but any queries post here and I can respond.

PS...You have beaten us both times we have played so its payback time:-P

Things to bring: A dees jumper/ shirt... sunscreen and water.

The same thread will be posted at demonology also.

The proposed date is October 21...but we can push that back a week or so if more time is needed.

So if your interested chuck your name down.

Cheers,

HD

Yeah I'd like to go around for another year, but I won't be back from europe till mid-November. Any interest in pushing it back till then??

I would play but I would kick 15 goals and embarrass everyone

We may end up playing a second game later on in the summer....but we are looking at getting one out for October and you blokes are free lol.

Count me in for sure, I’d liken myself to a Ricky Petterd type player – got guts, shows pride in the jumper, good skills, built like a skeleton and my lungs are shot. Only difference is I have about 20% of his footballing ability…

Yeah im in 4 sure. Sounds good

"You have beaten us both times we have played so its payback time"...

hey, HD...

we have lost hards, our captain/coach...

and wise monkey is his annointed successor (puffs of smoke did come out of the chimney)...

so I don't think we can make it for October 21, but I will be guided by the players...

(I only come to barrack and drink beer)...

I agree it's time you guys held up the "big carl" trophy, but you will have to earn it !!

we can push it back a week if you wish...your call, would making it the 28th help you in some way?

or would the 21st be achievable.

I'm in support of it. I really enjoyed the last one we played.... I'm no footy expert but managed to conjour up 3 majors throughout the day.

I'm happy to slot into the same position - forward pocket, and see how we go.

It would be fab if Demonology got involved too - I guess at the end of the day, that's what it's all about!

just wondering about the skill level of these matches?

"just wondering about the skill level of these matches?"

I posted my thoughts on the standard on the sister thread on demonology...

others may disagree...

Ahk, sounds cool, hopefully I would be up to standard...

Won't be able to hang around for socialising after as I have exams around that date

Right, I've just re-scheduled my flights, I arrive home on November 14th.

I'd love nothing more then to lead the boys into battle, but if the dates don't allow such a thing, then so be it.

HD are there any openings for a game from mid-November onwards?

If there is enough support for an October game then go ahead, and we'll try for another match later in the year.

I'll watch with interest...

Hey Wise.... !! Good to hear you are on the way home! No game would be the same without ya.

HD - do you really think we can get something together for October?

I would actually like to say that we play a couple of times before the years out....

If you think you can get a side by October 28 so be it, but if ya need more time thats fine as well.

I want to play.

I played FF for years.

I'm only 22 & feel I have some left in the tank.

Happy to play FP.

Funny, I thought you were only 12.

Yeah I'll be up for it again.

Will somebody be able to get the trophy off Hards before he leaves?

just wondering about the skill level of these matches?

Not much. But it's still lots of fun and literally anybody can join in.

Yeah sounds good, count me in.

How are the numbers looking so far?

I'd be in. Midfielder/defender. In and under type. Have played Saintsational before.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • PREGAME: Gold Coast

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?
