deefuture06 0 Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 After hearing Kennelly's comments the other night about our game turning into Gaelic football, would it be worth checking out a couple of prospect with our 2 late picks (providing we go for maximum participation in the draft)?
Freak 100 Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 I know we won't specifically allocate the last 2 players to Irish players. We will pick the best 2 players available. Its not like we are going to pick up Irish players just because they are Irish. I was thinking though, are we heading towards a priority draft pick?(at the end of the 1st round)

We wont get priority this year mate. They (the AFL) changed the rules recently and now the team must have won less than 4 games in the previous year to get priority picks. Meaning if we win less than 4 this year AND less than 4 next year we will be allowd priorities next year. A shocking rule but thems the brakes

Whispering_Jack 31,365 Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 We were the pioneers with the Irish experiment but it seems that we've taken our eyes off the ball in this regard. Collingwood, Carlton, Brisbane and Sydney have drafted Irish players in recent years. We seem to be uninterested. Likewise with the Sydney experiment. The Pies have picked up a good player, I'm not sure we're taking it all that seriously. Probably, has to do with the funding required and the fact that we don't have the resources to spend in that area compared with other clubs.
