Kookaburras get the win 2-1 against Ireland. Yet to really hit their straps the Kookaburras, but they're 2 for 2, so have set themselves up well.

A bit of a horrible first up loss for the Opals to Nigeria. Probably the worst they've played since the last Olympics. But with over 25 turnovers and shooting at less than 50% from the foul line, it's probably not that surprising.

Don't love their chances of getting a medal from here.

The Rugby 7's girls go through undefeated with a 19-14 win over Ireland. They weren't as sharp tonight, but with top spot already secured and Ireland needing a good result to make the Quarter Finals, the girls did what they needed to do.

Quarter Final should be early this morning.

Statement win for the Hockeyroos with a 4-0 drubbing of Great Britain, a team that's medalled at the last 3 games. Fingers crossed they can keep this form going.

Only good thing about being in Somalia (apart from getting paid) is the time zone is very Olympics friendly. Loving the Women’s 7s thought the men were pretty special too, so ripped off with that French Ref, not a knock on and definitely a fwd pass by the boks. Hockey I feel like not being favorites suits us, we always cooked it when we were red hot faves.

Gold to O'Callaghan and Silver to Titmus. Great effort girls. I think we can put the women's 4x200m Freestyle relay gold in the books now as well.👍

Yep. It's been a tough day for the Irish, losing to our Rugby 7's girls twice in the one day! Plus their mens Hockey team also lost to the Kookaburras today. Our girls have Canada next in the Semis. Win that and it's a Silver medal at worst.

Mariafe/Clancy lose 16-21, 16-21 to USA. Not all lost as a win in their next match will guarantee them a spot in the final 16. As I said last match, they're not playing as well as they did at Tokyo, however they can build into this tournament. USA are one of the Gold medal favourites in the Beach Volleyball.

Sadly gave a few points away with errors, but not far off

The Rugby 7's commentators are terribly biased when it comes to the refereeing decisions

They rarely point out when a decision goes in our favour and are quick to note when a decision goes against Australia

What they should be doing is pointing out both ... the yin & yan (take the good with the bad)

In Rugby union especially, a knock on is often paid when a player fumbles the ball.  So don't fumble

The referees have to make a split-second decision and don't have the benefit of numerous replays

We get the Quinella!!  Super effort by both girls!!  Augers well for the 4 x 200m relay

So of the 5 Gold medals we've won so far, 3 were expected and 2 were when we've had a decent chance

We haven't not won a gold when we've been the hot favourite (so far)

However, if we are right in the mix (but not hot favourite) for say 3 events, on average, we should win 1 of the events (in my view)

So if we count the K1 (Jess), the Time trial (Grace) and Kaylee in the 100m Backstroke (later tonight), we should expect to get 1 Gold Medal from the 3

But we might end up with all 3 Golds!!

I suppose we might be red hot favourite for the Rugby 7's for Women but the Kiwi's might have something to say about that ... they've been ultra impressive as well!

And apparently we are rated #3 in the World?  We certainly didn't play to that level and maybe the rankings are questionable?  Nigeria on the other hand were very good

Unfortunate loss for the Boomers against a very strong Canada team 83-93. We were right in it, but went cold in the final quarter. A win in their final group match against Greece will assure a Quarter Final spot.

Canada too good in the Women's Rugby 7's

Hats off to the better team, you can't win 'em all.  The Canadians played their best game of the tournament

It's one of those sports where just 1 or 2 errors can cost victory and tonight we made a few costly errors

Yes, we had an off night but Canada were a step up from Spain.  We lacked a bit of rythym and Canada were in control all night

The rankings have Greece at #14 but their best could test the Aussies.  But our best should see a victory and with it, advancement to the Q/F's

We're playing Greece Friday evening at 9.30pm

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
