I honestly think a lot of posters are misreading Chris Scotts presser, i probably took it as him playing mind games a little bit. I think he saw Melbourne take away and shut down a lot of what they wanted to do and render their star forwards ineffectual, so his response was to play it down as them having a bad day in the hope that teams don't study it too closely and work it out, but also to keep the belief in his playing group that they're the best team, and they weren't outplayed.

This is absolutely true, great post. Scott is calculating and doing everything he can to further his clubs interests. The guy could not care less if he comes across as arrogant if he believes it will give his team a psychological advantage. Same as after the 2021 prelim - people hate on him for the illness excuse but he gives his players a reason outside their control for the soul destroying loss to quell the recurrence of any mental demons in the future. They then win the next flag after a loss that most thought would shut their window. Very different approach to Goody, who champions the consistent messaging of respect for the competition and is very frustrating for opposition fans but Scott's messaging is and always has been tactically rather than personality-based.

I still hate him though.

Robinson is a complete fool, as we all know. It is astounding that he is still employed. Sad indictment on the industry

I like Robbo, don't agree with some of his calls, an obvious clanger on Fritsch but he doesn't try to be smarter than he is and gets most of the big issues right for mine. Better than someone like Kingy who flip-flops his life philosophies after every round on misguided 'technical' analysis or the Morris types of the world. Don't think my opinion can be trusted though because I like Cornes and McClure for constantly pissing off entire supporter bases.

Some have touched on this but it amazes me this notion I hear occasionally about the ‘dour Dees’ as they notice us being more patient and not just accepting the ‘red mist’ that is allowed inferior teams to absorb and beat us.

We are more exciting this year then the previous two in how we play - we are just not making it easy for the other team to slingshot and bring excitement to the game.

Perhaps these commentators should comment that the other team should stop flooding and allow us to score more easily and quickly if they are looking for more excitement…

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
