Ben Brown/Kelvin Templeton.

This is mot meant as disparagement of either, however, I saw some footage on You Tube tonight where Kelvin kicked his 15th!!!! goal at the Whitten Oval back in whenever, and we all recall Ben Brown's great feats as a Roo Forward. The bottom line, is that though both played great games for the Demons - BB kicked 3 in the '21 Grand Final - and much as I respect and loved them both as human beings, we 'scored' them when both were at the injury-prone twilight of their good times. I have nothing but respect for both, and empathize with the expectations we placed on both.  I hope Kelvin is doing as well as he deserves to be, and I wish the heartfelt same to BB when he retires, presumably at the end of 2023.

Both had their knees shot out as well!

Totally agree though a pleasure to have both at our club. Great post Monbon!

Dees have endured a long search for a key forward. From Tilbrook to Templeton to Cordner to Bennett to Jakovich to Schwarz to Neitz to James Cook to Jurrah to Mitch Clark to BBB. Apologies if I missed a few. Yes BBB played and was a key part of our 2021 glory.

The search over 50 years for a gun forward.  Some came on big dollars and big reputation. Some have excelled then were cut short by injury or discipline. Many were great for only a few years.   Neita was the standout over a longer period once he settled at full forward. Others were so exciting but couldn’t sustain it.

And so we look to JVR, Petty and Jefferson and hope for a true long term forward.

It’s Game Day and the Demons have made the long trip west to take on Fremantle tonight at Optus Stadium. Can Melbourne make it two from two to start the season, and what are you hoping to see from the Dees under the lights in Perth?

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.
