Admission of Tanking?

Libba on Open Mike: Liberatore said "he was interviewed by the AFL’s Rod Austin but learned through the newspapers the league would not follow up the tanking claims."

Rod Austin - ex Carlton player!!! You can't make up this stuff. Stinks. oh and an ex-Carlton player was Chief Commissioner of the AFL - Fitzpatrick!!

And when we got done by McLean's comments during On the Couch, he was then playing for who?

Absolutely Laughable at what West Coast are currently doing?

@Rhino Richards Do you honestly reckon West Coke have completed an AFL harden pre season in the past 2 seasons?

An injury list caused to hinder their chances of winning games to guarantee themselves of the best draft hand in the land without the allegations of tanking.

Signing on players that are past their best on multi year deals putting players away for the season when they could push through.

Not one iota of desperation to fix the issues they currently have all designed to guarantee draft hand.

How can Adam Simpson be surviving all this you say? Because the Weagles as a club are all in on the fix.

Could you imagine if it was an easy target like our Football Club 10 years ago?

Another orchestrated masterpiece from the Wet Coke Eagles.

Out of sight out of mind.

Now this is the conspiracy theory to replace all conspiracy theories!

West Coast, like Sydney & Geelong, have a history of staying near the top of the ladder and having continuing success despite the lack of access to higher draft picks. As recently as the end of Round 19 2021 they were 7th on the ladder but then went on to lose their last 4 games (successfully tanking to miss the finals, finish 9th and then secure Pick 14 in the 2021 draft).

Since then they have been dreadful due almost entirely to their failure to get anything resembling an AFL side on the park. You're suggesting they didn't do a proper pre-season in 2022 to start their process after just missing the 8 in 2021? Seriously? I suppose then they deliberately set out to injure their players in 2022 & 2023? Why does a club tank? Logically to get good draft picks and return to the top of the ladder. So why would you lock away players past their best on multi-year deals which ties up list spots & money that could be spent on drafting players to help you return to the top of the ladder. Sending away players for surgery when they could play on under duress? Teams that can't make the 8 do this all the time for obvious reasons (have the surgery, start the recovery process, you can't make the 8 this year but it positions you as well as possible for next season). This is not unique to West Coast.

No doubt West Coast have made major mistakes in giving contracts to veterans who are not part of their future success. I would also agree there must be more to their incredible run of injuries than just bad luck. Incredibly poor injury management. Also, notwithstanding their injury woes, some of their performances have been pathetic. They are fortunate that their fans turn up to games regardless of how poor they are going. Some of their attitudes reek of arrogance. But none of this is evidence of a strategy to finish down the ladder to improve future draft picks.

Remember we were cleared of trying to lose games. We got fined for being the employer of connolley and bailey, because they discussed the benefit of losing games. Wallace just admitted doing the same thing.

no he didnt. he said he let them play but wondered if he should be doing it. He also said no one at all ever said to look to do it. it was an afterthought

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
