A Trade Rule Question

Featured Replies

I am just wondering how the AFL signed off on the Luke Jackson trade. Hopefully a fellow Demonlander can enlighten me.

It's been all over the AFL website that Port Adelaide's early mooted offer of their future 1st Round pick & future 2nd Round pick be a part of the potential "Mega Trade" that would've seen JHF get to Port.

However the AFL knocked it back because a club is not allowed to trade it's future 1st Round pick & any of it's future 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Round picks at the same time. Likewise, if a club trades a future 2nd, 3rd or 4th round pick they would have to hang on to their future 1st Round pick. (That's as I understand the rules)

So.....how did we get Fremantle's future 1st Round AND future 2nd Round pick in the deal for Jacko?

simple. freo had 2 f2 picks (1 was traded in)

so freo still have a f2 and a f3 pick

also i believe in some cases (trade of young player?) they might give permission to break this rule. remember afl can always make on the spot exception rule changes when it suits their agenda....it's the afl afterall 🤣

Freo trade Logue for North’s future 2nd.

Freo then had 2, so could send us one.

Many clubs have done so previously.

In 2019 we traded Frost and a F4 for a F2. Then traded a F2 for Langdon and a F4.

As we were neutral on future picks we could then trade our F1 to North for the Pickett pick.

They refused Port’s request for an exemption due to AFL bylaw:

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
