game day banners

i was discussing our recent run of games with mate earlier today and we spoke about everything and one thing that came up was how much do the players feel we support them on the day, unlike soccer with the singing we really only cause a lot of noise when a goal is scored or big tackle is laid, or the umps crucify us again

this lead to the banners the players run through

now dont get me wrong i like a lot of the slogans that are placed upon the banners and all the hard work and effort that goes into making them (kudos to all involved) but would it be worth having maybe at time something more meaningful on the banners?

ie like now we are down the players would be too and would something simple like a message from fans to players help lift them when they saw it at 2:00 pm game day

like an appropriate one would be (ill steal another few clubs motto) simply "YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE"

now i hate liverpool and celtic who are 2 big clubs who use it but the amount of times ive heard players say when the team was down they knew the fans would always stick by them, they might [censored] and moan a bit but in the end the supporters will stick thick

would the players get a lift from seeing the banner simply read that? i think they would, i think they would appreciate the fact that we dont boo them off the ground and will stick by them through the tougher times

what are your thoughts?

To be honest I'd be suprised if any players read the banner before they ran through it.

Furthermore, I'd be surprised if the players can even be bothered running through it...especially these days.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
