Thank you to the people who make this site possible. It is truly a boon to us poor long suffering gloating & insufferable Melbourne supporters.

One tiny gripe. The banner pictures, ie. the top one of the GF team and the "Demonland Merchandise" one ... appear to be giant images shrunk down to screen-viewable size. But the shrinking seems to happen on the fly ... they are still giant images. They seem to be downloaded anew for every page and it adds that extra 3, 4, 5 seconds, every time.

Doesn't seem like much but this poor long suffering gloating & insufferable fan, buoyed by premiership success, is unreasonably impatient and wonders if the pictures could be "pre-shrunk" to give a faster response.

Thank you

Yes, the banner image is 7488 x 1080 pixels with a file size of 7.06Mb. What's more it's a .png file which is much larger than a corresponding .jpg.

Very few people use a screen size larger than 1920 x 1080 which is the standard HD television dimension. If they have a larger screen, they usually use a smaller window anyway.

Loading it into Photoshop, reducing the size to 1920 pixels across and saving it as a jpg reduced the file size to 133K or about one-fiftieth of the size.

There is still room for economy in image size for web usage, even with all the memory and speed we have available to us these days.

Even the "The Demonland Podcast Will Return in the 2022 Pre-Season" pic (with cartoon Tracc  and cartoon Demon) seems oversized.

Well that was quick. Thank you for the speedy response. It's made a substantial improvement.

I see that some of the other images down the right-hand column are pretty big too. I hate to make work for other people, but it would be tremendous if those could be dealt with too (in the fullness of time).

Thank you Demonland.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
