    The VFL was create 1897 and 3 clubs were allowed in in 1925 so if you deduct the premierships before 1925 from all clubs the most successful club is Hawthorn and since VFL changed to the AFL in 1990 Hawthorn is the most successful with 5 premierships.

    We can recify that by winning the next 5.
