Exactly. Which is why they were able to transition so much more easily than other opponents - particularly though the corridor

Add pressure levels that were not up to the required level until part way through the last quarter and you get clean entries. And the highest score kicked in against us this season.

Add some accurate kicking from them, some poor defensive efforts (why was none in Walker's leading lanes x 2), some costly fumbles (eg tracc on the wing in the last) and some dubious decision that cost goals (non deliberate, deliberate against us x 2, soft in the back against lever, rubbish 50 and the non htb against keays).

Ans most of all add a young team who played with spirit and fire and took risks.

Put it all together and you get a one point loss. Not to mention a cracking game. At least for neutrals.

When it is all said and done nothing to die in a ditch over.

We should have played tempo one we got the 16 point lead. And the quick goal from the centre to walker was poor defensively.

Of course you want the 4 points, but I do wonder if squeezing home in that game might have allowed some players to think the pressure and defensive running was OK.

A loss takes that off the table and none one needs to tell them if the crows can beat them by applying more pressure (which accross the game they did - i reckon we only ever matched them at best  and then only for 15 mins in rhe last) the dogs will destroy them.

Couldn't agree more. There have been worrying signs to date with the lack of pressure some have been applying / the lack of 'buy in' to the system.  Hopefully there are enough reality checks here to get people switched on / playing with the intent needed.

My main concern out of the loss, apart from how bad the poor umpires must feel, is the drop-off in form from Max.  Is he carrying something?  His average form is better than most, but he doesn't seem as switched on as normal.

I believe it was the highest score from turnovers from any team so far this year.

We have the next few days week to rectify it because the Dogs will be be licking their lips at that stat.

It was a shocking way to lose. No doubt about it.

That umpire was incompetent. Thats a fact.

Another fact is and more importantly, we played poorly.

So many players did zip. Especially up forward.

We missed Salem and May had a shocker.

Even still off the boot of a few we were in a good position to win but squandered it so thats on us.

The only positive is there is less pressure on us going agsinst the dogs.

And I think also maybe solved the bb and sw issue.ie bb gets a nod.

h the lack of pressure

Frittas lack of pressure was shameful.

Melkshams was even worse. Did not see him lay a tackle. That is not acceptable and if any body wears any blame and many do, I would start at the least tackling.

so out of 2 teams we had half the bottom 15 players. thats hardly a damning stat.

Yes that is so but some of their scores were almost didn’t turn up poor.!!!

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
