nope last time sautner didn't play newton kicked 5. dont mind the bloke but i think newton should be used more come practise matchs. we all know what sautner is capable of and so be it, but we are talking future full forward here and he needs the game time as much as possible. Newton is a gun and is a very damaging player.. how i know? i have seen him when he played bushies up here in under 18s. i was stoked we picked him up and he just has that knack to kick big long goals but also play up ground a bit and get alot of the ball, but its up to him weather he wants to make that next step

Sandringham won comfortably today at the Trevor Barker Oval against Casey Scorpions (aligned to St. Kilda). The Scorps got the early breaks kicking with the wind but Sandy, with Paul Wheatley starring, wore them down by half time and ran out winners by 42 points 20.15.135 to 14.9.93.

Colin Sylvia put in a solid three quarters kicking a couple and giving a couple away, Ricky Petterd started slowly but improved as the game went on and finished a solid contributor while Simon Buckley put in a very good performance o show he is a much improved footballer in 2007. Michael Newton and Colin Garland are oing to be very good forward line players in the future.

Byron Pickett did not play.

Shane Valenti was the star Zebra kicking a couple and roving the ball well while Nick Sautner finished with a lazy five goals all kicked after half time. He shocked the crowd in the first quarter by handballing to Simon Godfrey for a goal.

Goals: Sautner 5, Godfrey, Wheatley 3, Sylvia, Valenti 2, Bizzell, Garland, Johnson, Newton, Petterd.

For the trolls at Saintsational who have been logging in here for a bit of fun, Michael Gardiner displayed very much the same form as he has over the past couple of years at WCE, Max Hudghton was beaten on points by a 19 year old called Michael Newton and Armitage couldn't even hold his own against 174 cm Valenti. Barry Brooks took a nice marke and kicked a goal early, flew home to King Island for a couple of quarters and was back to get his next possession in the last. The 2005 John Beveridge recruiting coup James Gwilt kept Nick Sautner goalless in the first half and was then taught an absolute lesson by Sauts who inished with five goals. The umpiring was as bad as it was on Friday night but the Scorps didn't quite manage to snaffle 28 frees to 17 or get five goals from gift frees so they lost by six goals.

Agreed 'BRB', although i don't think young Buckley is ready just yet, I still think he's too green. I'd like to see him playing amongst the men in the VFL 1sts for a little while yet. The same with young Einstein, I mean Young NEWTON! Both are still too much in the boyish mould & need the case hardening earnt thru games played against harder bodies than in vfl 2nds. Colin Garland looks an prospect to be excited about.

Byron Pickett did not play today because i heard his mother is ill. I hope she gets better soon, the Pickett family.

He nearly played against the St/s but was considered not quite, but now with brock out & byron still training I presume, then he could be one of the possible replacements along with Doggy Brown & Wheaters, doggy being able to play many positions, back pockett, hb/f, wing, or inside the square, he could be usefull if we had troubles with whelan or bartram.

Garland has a great mark. Absloute vice like grip. Very impressed with his contested marking today. He will be way ahead of Miller in 12 months time, once his body builds up a little more. Just a great mover.

Newton also presented very well all day. He could be absolutely anything. I have extremely high hope for Juice. His skills are sublime, even though he kicked 1.3 or 1.4 today.

Even though Newton probably needs a solid year in the Sandy Senior's, i would like to see him get a run in the Melbourne side at some stage this year. He is such a talent. So much potential. He still needs another solid preseason and another 5 - 7 kgs.

One of the Sandy coaches told me Pickett had a touch of the sore hammy's, though he also went back to SA to see his sick mother. So not sure if he will be right for the Demons against the Dorks.

Wheatley was impressive with his trademark LONG KICKS and took some nice marks.

Buckley just oozes class and speed. He has a bit of that Judd accelaration. Very impressed. I would play him instead of Yze this week. He was everywhere. He deceptively tall up close. He looked to be the same height as Garland when i went over to the 1/4 time huddle.

PJ was dissapointing. Beaten by Gardiner IMO.

Godfrey's skills are getting worse, enough said. He will never and should never play for us again.

Brown is very good at this level, but still made silly mistakes. Not good enough for AFL level anymore.

Sylvia's forward pressure was breath taking. He is still a few more games away, but is looking the goods. Still a little behind on match fitness. But is a class above at this level.

Neaves looks bigger this year, but does nothing around the ground.

Bizzell did very well today. Trademark mopping up around half back.

In conclusion, i would say Buckley, Wheatley and Bizzell desearve to be considered for selection this week in that order, though i would prefer to see Pickett get a game. We need his toughness and presence.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
