I've been a bit concerned that some posters lately seem to think Aaron Davey needs to prove himself in finals.

His last 1/4 efforts against the Saints last year, backing himself on the boundary was how I see him play all the time, lots of brilliant cameos that require an alert opponent all day. And courageous as all get out just to be out there given his physique

At Geelong he was running all over the place and didn't seem to have a fixed position, still nearly running down a few oponents, attempting a screamer, and generally harrassing and herding Geelong backs.

Any thoughts?

(I admit that I go just to watch him play, so may be biased)

To be honest I thought the Geelong game was the worst he has ever played in the red and blue. He seemed to be running around like a headless chook. IMO he is suited to the forward pocket not further up the ground. He is most likely (I have nothing to back up my argument) the fastest player in the league over 20 - 30 metres. When he is running around all day in the midfield he is still lightning fast, but he loses the explosiveness that sets him apart from everyone else.

Having said that if a game was in the balance at a pivotal time I'd be happy if Daniher sent Davey up the field to mix things up and add some spark to our midfield.

Thanks for the backup Wrecker.

I wanted to say what you observed but couldn't bring myself to use the 'headless chook' phrase.

Determination and guts was never an issue though.

He even trid a Robbo-like speccie at one time.

his "speccie" started a run on for geelong late in the 3rd quarter, i thought it was very reminiscent of xavier clarkes "speccie" against us a few years ago

he was at his best chasing and tacklng wise in the first quarter, as he started HFF area, but later in the game he moved around the ground more, not really touching the ball too much

still, he will ignite the midfield quite often for us this year

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
