Saw this on the SEN website and it's good to see someone use hard facts when discussing the current game. As always with the AFL they've made aknee jerk reaction to on weekend of football, likely off the back of Clarkson's comments who seems to own the AFL. This in itself is an issue as no coach should have any sway over the rules or what the AFL do, but that's a whole other topic.

The two key things this analyst advocates are:

1. Remove the ruck nomination rule and ball up quicker - the AFL really stuffed this one up and it's been a terrible rule that's caused increased congestion. Own up to the mistake and change it ASAP lease AFL rules committee!

2. Bonus point for scoring over 100 - I've mentioned this on here before and I think this is a great idea. Give an incentive to score more and the coaches will put together gamestyles based on scoring rather than defending. Given the games are 20% less this season I'd use 80 but then back to 100 when the games are the full minutes.

I honestly believe these two small changes would drastically improve the standard of our games and the excitement factor.

Bonus Points for reaching 100 points is not a small change.

Reduce the Rotations allowed off the Bench.
This is when the overcrowding began.
Positions on the field faded away....

I'm all for that as well.

I guess the idea is by adding an incentive to score, coaches will focus on the attacking side more than defending.

Weather Conditions make that too hard to implement

I've heard that argument and my response is we already have an uneven season, so the concern that weather affects a few games is really a mute point.

Yes exactly. It only affects a few games.
So it cannot be such a major factor

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
