And you have got to be kidding.

Thanks for that Jon.

I think if you read carefully you'll see that I've not praised Bryon to much, referred to Neville's game that I liked in "a quiet sort of way" and said Newton played really well in the second half. Hardly high praise. I just disagree with you on Neaves. That's what opinions are about, and thanks for yours.

I tend to differ about Byron. Why do you reckon a class player like that was running around for the whole game at Sandy?

....

Thanks Fan.

Your learned and insightful comments are always appreciated.

Thanks for your efforts.

So Newton can run as well as mark, Fan . Pretty promising!! Trouble is, he won't get a chance at FF because of Sauts. Is he big enough to hold down CHF? Running and creating is the big requirement at CHF, as well as marking. You do have to go in and get the ball, there, though, and from what you say, that's not his forte.

You're probably right Jumping Jack. The word is that Sauts kicked a lazy five in his first gallop for the year. Newton will probably have to play further afield but I don't think he's physically (and also perhaps mentally) ready for the rigours of FF so I'd suggest they keep him on a wing or a half back flank till he learns the caper.

Fan, appreciate the run down as always.

We're lucky to have people on here who take the time not only to go down and support the fellas who play at Sandy but also come back and fill us all in.

Might catch you Sunday if you're going.

Where is Newton likely to play then?

Saunts at full forward.

Dunn or Miller at CHF

Newton third tall or wing?

Really dont want to see him at sandy 2nds all year again.

The reason that Newton spends a lot of time playing for Sandy seconds has nothing to do with ability; it has ro do with application. If Newton shows form and dedication, they will find a spot for him in the firsts. If he can't show enough to play regularly in the firsts, I expect that this year will be his last.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
