MILKSHAKE

The medium forward booted 32 goals in a year that saw him complete a top ten finish in the club best and fairest. His was at his best with game-swinging goals against West Coast in Round 22 and Hawthorn in the Semi Final while he was sublime against Carlton in mid season with a massive five goals, 21 disposals and 15 score involvements rated the fifth best of the decade. Melksham was ranked first in the competition for goal assists, with 33 overall.

I just remember when he came  to us and was said, what an ordinary player we were getting. Well  how ordinary has he been? In fact just finishing in the top 10  in the B&F is not ordinary. Melky can mark one on one plays tall for his height can kick multiple goals and when the going gets tough Melky gets us going. He just seems to bob up when we need him most. He has the smarts.

He is a very important to our cause. Excellent year mate!

A couple of years ago, a couple of bomber supporters told me Milky was useless and we were welcome to him. Toward the end of the season they had sure changed their minds with one even denying saying Milky was no good.

And that left foot snap from just outside the 50 against Hawthorn (?) was equal to Bernie’s down at Geelong a few years ago!

Really found his niche as a forward pocket, great year really proved himself as a good footballer when people had their doubts.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
