I wasn't comparing DJ to Weideman. Spargo is a simlar size to DJ if you need it spelled out. Spargo has impacted in his first year DJ looks nowhere near it and coming to the end of his first contract.

Its not that hard.

It’s not hard, it’s just irrelevant. All players develop at different rates.

Surely Jetta as a prime example would indicate that not performing at a high level in your first few seasons is not a definite indicator of future competency.

Be honest re Johnstone (and the same applies for King & Filipovic as well) - if he wasn't on our list already, there is nobody on the planet who would be advocating that he be recruited based on his performances over the past two years. If he is not good enough to be drafted in November, why would you offer him a new contract? Time to cut our losses and give someone else a go.

Sorry to side track but regarding the other 2 you spoke of, are they both rucks and if so why 2 rucks? How long have we had them and how old are they? Tx in advance.

I watched jetta pretty closely when he was a rookie. He definitely had something. I haven't seen much of DJ but nothing I have seen indicates there is a future for him. CLearly he could improve dramatically but you need to see something.

The fact he has been on a list for 2 years doesn't automatically mean we have to persevere with him. Otherwise our list would be clogged with players just hoping they would improve to AFL standard.

What have you seen from DJ that indicates there is a future for him? That's the discussion really.

King (21) is in his 3rd year & Flip (20) his 2nd, both ruckmen. King is a competative player and has shown the odd ability to drift forward and take a mark/kick a goal, but barely gets involved around the ground. Flip has great athleticism and mobility and can get to contests, but almost never impacts them. Both regularly get smashed in the hit out department also.

With Angus Bradtke to come in as a Category B rookie and us being strongly linked to Preuss, the likelihood of either of these young ruckmen being required is slim to none I would think.

Dion has shown (since being moved to defence) an ability to lock down on an opponent as well as run off them and use the ball well off either side. He's also a ferocious tackler. His aerial game and positioning is probably still a work in progress from what I've seen.

Josh Green tomorrow whose been in good form should be a good test for Dion.

Most of my experience with Dion is his junior football so clearly out of date. The few times I have seen him at Casey have been OK but nothing stand out. Agree that Green should be a reasonable test.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
