Depends who he is replacing and the role he is playing Pro. Ā MadeĀ a significantĀ difference and impact last week. HisĀ comparative around the ground (non-rucking) stats were off the charts for someone playing a large part of game timeĀ in the ruck. No doubt he didn't get many to advantage but they were the best comparative statsĀ all year vs anyone who has played the main ruck role for a large part of the game, including Watts, Spencil and Big Maxy.

You've misunderstood, Red.

When I was talking about getting games into players "who are the future" at the expense of the "likes of Pedersen" I wasn't referring to Pedersen as our number one ruck due to a spate of injuries, I was referring to Pedersen as a tall forward. Ā A very different analogy. Ā

Ā

Last year we beat a Hawthorn team that was two clear on top of the ladder andĀ included Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis, and Brad Hill. Ā We play an inferior Hawthorn side this year without those players, not to mention we've procuredĀ one of them. Ā

I think we're better in 2017 even though we haven't played a 4 quarter game. Ā Clayton Oliver makes us better for starters. Ā After this round we'll be 4th on the "quarters won" ladder. Ā We only need to win one quarter to make that transition. Ā If we win all 4 quarters we'll go to third. Ā Last year we finished 10th on the QW ladder. Ā It's a measure I rate and gives a good indication of a team's performance by year's end, as well as an accurate pictureĀ as the year is unfolding.

I don't care what Hawthorn do today, if we come to play we'll win. Ā They cannot match our midfield.

Particularly when you take the age of the side into account, to me it's a sign of the talent on the list and the quality of experience we haveĀ

I'm in NYC. Is it possible to watch the game on the AFL app tomorrow without first knowing the score?

Watching it live at 1.00am on Sat night at One Oak will otherwise be pretty tough.

Ron use the website watchafl.com.au you should be able to watch the whole match replay (i.e.Ā games from fri night still on there not sure how long they keep them up for). I find outside aus - the website much better for stability and quality than the app. Same feedback from other mates living overseas as well.

ThereĀ is an option to switch match score off so you can't see them before watching.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologistĀ  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmedĀ the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).Ā

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
