2016 Player Review - # 35 Ben Kennedy

Kennedy had a brilliant start to his career at his new club but his form tapered off and he spent the latter part of the season in the VFL.

I liked what he brought to the team this year.

Agreed. I'm not sure if he plays 15 games next season but he is competitive and creative with the footy.

After his second game for us i added him to my "favourite players" on my DL profile. I really loved the effort, intent and awareness he showed — especially around the 50.

He certainly faded as the season rolled on. However, this was his first year playing back-to-back games with any kind of regularity, so we shouldn't be too surprised that he ran out of legs.

I think he can be a very important player for us in 2017. He has great speed and awareness and, as Adzman states above, he is competitive and creative.

Fingers crossed in hoping he has a good injury-free pre-season!

Easily the most disappointing player on our list through the last 2/3 of the season. It is amazing that a player who has been in the system for four years still isn't clear on the level of effort required to be a quality AFL player. There is no doubt that he has talent to burn, but he won't be getting a second contract if he can't match that talent with workrate.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
