THE LAST TIME THEY MET

Featured Replies

A lot of water under the bridge since the two clubs met late last year on the Coast. The Suns were on the up and up and made no changes while the Dees were coming of a couple of big defeats including a debilitating 10 goal thumping from Carlton.

Here are the teams from that clash:-

GOLD COAST SUNS

Backs Trent McKenzie Sam May Seb Tape

Half forwards Greg Broughton Rory Thompson Luke Russell

Centreline Harley Bennell Gary Ablett Jarrod Harbrow

Half forwards Jaeger O'Meara Sam Day Aaron Hall

Forwards Campbell Brown Charlie Dixon Nathan Bock

Followers Daniel Gorringe Danny Stanley David Swallow

Interchange Dion Prestia Andrew Sexton Matt Shaw Tim Sumner

Emergencies Jackson Allen Andrew Boston Thomas Murphy

No change

MELBOURNE

Backs Lynden Dunn Colin Garland Dean Terlich

Half backs James Strauss Tom McDonald Mitch Clisby

Centreline Jack Grimes Jack Viney Jordie McKenzie

Half forwards Matt Jones Jack Watts Jack Trengove

Forwards Dean Kent Jack Fitzpatrick Luke Tapscott

Followers Jake Spencer Colin Sylvia Nathan Jones

Interchange Shannon Byrnes Aaron Davey Troy Davis Dan Nicholson

Emergencies Sam Blease

In Troy Davis Jordie McKenzie Dan Nicholson James Strauss

Out Max Gawn Jeremy Howe (calf) Cam Pedersen Jimmy Toumpas

Interesting that there will probably only be 10 or 11 Melbourne players from that team who will line up this weekend.

I reckon we are a good chance to win this game, i reckon we have been a whole lot better this year than people appreciate

I thought we gave them a good run for their money that day with the main factor being the blanketing of Junior Ablett by a combination of Col Garland and Jordie McKenzie.

The team we put on the park this week should be much better but we can't allow Ablett to weave his magic the way he did when we played them earlier in the season last year at the G.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
