DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Featured Replies

Late, but neverthless:

6 - N Jones

5 - Watts

4 - Dunn (and it's time I apologised to him. He now looks like he belongs)

3 - Tyson

2 - Trengove

1 - Bail (would have been just after the top three if he could convert his great link-up play with better disposal)

Maybe it's just me, but I'm surprised at the number of people putting M Jones in the votes. I thought he was terrific in the last quarter but barely noticed in the first three.

M Jones was a hell of a lot better than Bail, Bail works hard and battles just can't kick

M Jones has always been one of those players who is very unobtrusive. Gathers possessions without notice - a bit like Daniel Cross (thinking more about Cross's games in previous years). Perhaps it's just me, but apart from the last quarter I had no impression that M Jones was exerting any influence.

I thought Mat Jones was excellent

He ran hard, tacked hard and I never realized he was so quick

He will play all 22 games

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
