Gumby would of been huge pick up. Dawes was in sheer desperation or at least the next alternative. Neeld knew him so went out to get himhonestly believe giving Fev a one year contract would of been better and a lot cheaper. Hope I'm wrong. Like the look of Dawes in the no 6

Fev!!!

Lord no. We would have to slip the ball boy a few quid to pick up all the dummies Fev had spat. Part of our problem is to do with culture change and Fev would be a huge step backwards. Sulks onfield, belittles those who train hard and is an off-field disaster waiting to happen. We really need one of those. Dawes will be fine when we have a midfield.

Ok, I could treat this post with the disdain it deserves, but instead I'll highlight for you the (probable) two starting midfields to do battle:

MFC RICH

Jones Cotchin

Jones Deledio

Viney Martin

Bail Vlastuin

Evans Jackson

Spencer Maric

I don't believe Neeld will see out his contract, mainly due to mistakes he made early on, but anyone coming in or taking over doesn't have a lot to work with as you have just highlighted unfortunately.

Thai, your comments about Dawes are way off base.

On the weekend Sylvia alone kicked the ball over his head 5 times with a dumb long bomb. It happened too often to be a coincidence. It's obviously part of the game plan and is bloody terrible. Dawes was in front each time and a couple of times sprayed at Col (who thoroughly deserved it).

I can't understand the desire to crucify Dawes already from some. So we paid overs? well we did it so we met the salary cap and you can bet the contract is front loaded while we can afford it (from a salary cap perspective).

Put Dawes, Clark and Hogan in the same team and we have the potential for a brutally good forward line. You have to think passed last week when we had the worst midfield we've put on the park in 150 years.

Considering how so much of the game is now about counter attack from the half back line I'm not sure a three tall forwardline is a good move. If they aren't taking a grab the ball will be coming out of there at light speed. We really need mids and quality rebounding defenders.

But, it gives us the opportunity to move the ball quickly and under pressure and still be in with a shot. Look at Carlton last night. All the Saints had to do was put pressure on the kick in and the resting ruckman could get to the contest. He can't be in 3 places at once.

The possibility of our forward line is what keeps my heart beating. Don't take it away from me ;)

STRAFFORD

Have you ever seen the Movie "Goon". An ordinary Ice Hockey team with a very tough coach who believes in letting his team off the leash every now and again...like every night! Girls, Partying and Booze. Goon the Hitman a not dissimilar to the role Sylvia played V GC. Players respect the Coach and respect reciprocated . Highlanders is FAMILY. Melbourne is not an alternate Family to the players right now. Neeld is a totally boring fart and the players have had enough of him. Yes he is a lovely Guy and is trying but lets concede he may not make it.

Malthouse got it right recently stating that MFC need a Love Session. There is shitloads to work with at Demons. Return of Jamar and Clark, Chris Dawes, an injury free Trengove/Grimes, Viney, our new fish Big Maxy Gawn, Danny Frawley would fit nicely into any top 8 side at FB and Jeremy Howe is one of the hottest players in the AFL with the AFL using him to market the game all around the world. Don't forget Jack Watts and Hogan coming in next year.

Not a lot to work with??

Spot ON Strafford!

Back and Forwards will look a hell of a lot better with a dominant Mids/Ruck combination

This will come. Must be patient. IMO the Jamar/Gawn combination is best with Trengove/Viney/Jones/Sylvia/Grimes rotation. Young guys of the ilk of Taggert pushing to come in. Not all so bad.

I do remember Slapshot. Perhaps these are who we need.

I realise you are taking the p, but I was referring to the midfield as it stands now and in relation to this year, but carry on. Hyperbole and all lol

Just been a bit unlucky that we haven't had Trengove, Viney, Jones, Sylvia and Grimes in the same side this season....

Not taking [censored] though . Dead set serious. We need to loosen up a little. Watch Goon.

After much adjective and hyperbole directly following game v Gold Coast I felt it necessary to post this fresh topic and would love to hear some more opinions.

While I've never been a Neeld fan and did vent on this forum post match, after listening to Neeld and Jones press conference I did feel better.

Neeld is learning the "top job" after a few seasons of playing Robin or Tombe the mist(Shintaro) at Magpies. Given this perhaps we must endure another year at least to see if he's any good.

Huge/massive recruiting blunders this year have contributed to why we are where we are. Rodan, Byrnes, Pederson, Sellar and yes...Dawes will all struggle at this level . Think of what 5 cleverly selected recruits would of done for us.

Types of the Ingerson, Icke, Wilson, Jackovich ilk are what was needed, even a Fevola ((current)surely would of been better than Sellar?

Our recruiting has been bad for years now. Not sure what hand Neeld had in 2013 recruits but he is responsible. Q is do we (or action Jackson) give him 2 more years to make good?

Hyperbole prediction after todays game V Freo.

Sack Neeld

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
