For those wanting trades done, locked away and sealed early on in the piece, you may very well be disappointed.

Free agency ends on the 19th of October, therefore compensation picks won't be dished out until such time for the AFL to assess the net gains and losses of players. These compensation picks are sure to be used to secure deals.

But as I write this, I have just thought of another issue that to my knowledge has not been addressed.

For example, say next week we do a deal with the Suns for a straight swap with pick 13 (I said it’s just an example, settle down). We sign off, they sign off... everyone is happy. October 19th comes around and St Kilda has not gained any free agents, the AFL settles their compensation as a 1st round pick to be taken immediately after their pick 12 (thats pick 13 for those playing at home). Does that then push the now Suns pick back to 14 even though they had signed off to receive pick 13? I guess it must because I don't see any other way around it.

Just another interesting thing to factor in. Another reason I guess that we will most likely see deals done in the final weeks so everyone knows where they stand and what is actually on offer.
