Player Declaration

Featured Replies

Whilst I'm not saying anyone has signed for any particular club, my post is more seeking the opinions of fellow demonland members. Should a player in Tom Scully's situation have to declare to their football club that they have in fact signed with another club at seasons end prior to the completion of his current contract?

I pose the following arguments to suggest the club should have a right to know if a current contracted player has signed with another club. Whether they release it to the general public/members is another issue.

1) Should the club have the right to know for Salary Cap reasons, if they have a number of players/stars coming out of contract at the end of the season, they will be able to factor in room in the salary cap for a player who's market value would increase in their second contract in the AFL?

2) Avoid speculation so as not to disrupt a football group.

3) Does the club play him given the fact that he will be filling a spot that could be used to develop other kids on the list (Scully's case would be you would play him to benefit the team)

I could try and list a few more arguments but will just see how this goes.

it does not seem to affect the league players, so i can't see it being a problem for AFL players, after all AFL players are far more professional

Everything I have ever heard about Tom says he is a young man of integrity. I seriously doubt that he would go a season lying to his teammates if he had signed with another club. Far more likely he would be open about it. If I believe this then I believe that he has not signed with another club. He may do so at a later date, but that will not be until after the end of the current season, so I'll worry about it then.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
