James Strauss

Good grief it must be quiet and the season is coming to an end, this is what Brad Gotch wrote in the Casey review this week

James Strauss: James played in the reserves. He’s set to have a operation this weekend. We had to blood someone else for finals, so he was very understanding of that, so he played in the reserves to have a final hit out for the year. It would’ve been easy to play him in the seniors.

Strauss will be fine, he will have another year to prove his worth or otherwise, why must we make a habit of continually writing off 18 and 19 years old and then having to eat humble pie a year later.....

Funny, I am reading Kevin Sheedys original book on him 'a touch of cunning'. In the 80s' he promoted Gary O'Donnell on the back of 72 VFL reserves games basically to see if he could handle the big time. It was the last game of the season. They put him on Daicos and he did well. that kept him on the list.

That is one of many stories of good players that took time to develop.

I reckon it too Brad Green till 3-4 years ago to toughen up, and now you can rely on him, generally speaking when it's his turn to go.

with talented kids harder to find the next two years, we should keep Maric and Strauss on and see if they can become a Gary O'Donnell

The days of allowing players the luxury of developing for 4 years in the ressies are gone. Lists are smaller and players are expected to move through to challenge in AFL, expecially players of Strauss's type.

Green kicked 4 goals in a QF in his first year under pressure. He was class in his first year and is a good grade or so above Strauss.

Developing the players for 4 years in the ressies is not gone at all. Maric has had 3 already. I notice Robbie Tarrant was taken the same year and is playing for North this weekend. his 3rd game in 3 years.

On the contrary, i think it can take a good 4 years to make a clear decision on whether some players can make it. and as such I will be very surprised if we delist Maric or Strauss.

You can't keep them forever, but reality is you cannot learn it all straight away when you aren't a champion player.

i would suggest Nik natanui will take 4 years to become consistent, and they will invest the time needed.

Martin Pike delivered one of the best legitimate shirt fronts (it was

in a Final I think, in the forward pocket) I have seen in the last

twenty years. His opponent hit a brick wall.

I was sorry to see him go. Quality footballer.

Dare I say it; too good for the Club at the time.

Martin Pike was a monumental disaster off field. Where did he go from Melbourne? What did they do - keep or delist. Where did he go next? What did they do - keep or delist? At his 4th club, under a legendary tough man as coach, he stayed for a while.

His 4 premierships, and a string of talented and courageous displays on field, show he was a good player. His record at his first 3 clubs show that he was a ****head off the field. I would just love to know what Lethal said to him the day he arrived at Brisbane.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
