yeah i think i've seen enough of Bisping but for that weight class you are right about the options. it's a long way off so it's obviously speculative at the moment.

i would love to see Ebersole Vs Dan Hardy for entertainment.

Not the greatest of cards, in fact a very average card which turned out great by the loss of one little turd.

Fantastic to see Carlos Condit do a number on Nick Diaz. i found it really funny that during his little tantrum after taking the loss like a man, Diaz had the nerve to complain that he wasn't hit with much after he has a made a career out of powder puff half strength punches. just like little bro against Donald Cerrone, Diaz started up with the mouth (maybe because he needs to puts guys of their game because he can't beat them on level terms), but unlike cowboy Condit was having none of it, and fought his own varied and skillful fight. Condit.......you are my hero.

In other fights Roy Nelson gave a typically courageous performance in his match-up with Fabricio Werdum who was very impressive. Josh Koscheck was a little lucky to win a split decision against Mike pierce IMO but maybe that just cos i hate him. i didn't catch all the fights in the prelims, but apart from a very nice Dustin Poirier submission against Max Holloway the rest were just fights.

Rashad Evans and Jon Jones is also now on the cards so that should be one to watch out for.

Waaahhhh! I'm not playing anymore!

What a [censored], and he has the audacity to say Carlos used "baby leg kicks". The only thing missing from his speech was a warm bottle and mummy tucking him in.

If they were such baby kicks, why didn't he walk through them / catch them and unleash a flurry or take him down?

And the fact that he even mentioned the leg kicks means he felt 'em, and even he knew they were the difference.

He didn't have any class when he was beating cans in strikeforce, why would he have any after losing to a top class fighter?

Stay retired. Swim back to Alcatraz and lock yourself in there.

Could not believe how good Werdum looked, I can't stand that guy, but he has improved, although I'd need to see it against a taller, quicker heavyweight to be sold. A fight with Mir would be interesting.

Big Country is just crazy, f..k that for a living, his head must throb for a month.

Been a bit unlucky too, he always fights top guys bigger than him, gotta love his heart.

Was hoping Pierce would win, that fight didn't do much for me. Koscheck v Diaz would be interesting. If it's Koscheck v Fitch I'll go watch seniors pottery class or something.

Can't think of anything else worth mentioning, Poirier is the goods but we knew that. You're right, uneventful card.

I can't wait for the Japan card, that'll be a doozie.

And now the dummy spitter gets a rematch.

Awesome!

And now there is no rematch because blazin' Diaz copped a 12 month ban for smokin the ganj'.

The drama never ends with this fool, although, this could well be the end of him in the UFC.

just a cracking card.......

not a fan of Ben Henderson at all, but he is a quality fighter. i would have liked to have seen him do a bit more to take the title from Edgar, but it was a fair enough decision and he is now the new lightweight champion. quality fight though. now someone knock him off his perch before he gets even more arrogant, if thats possible.

That person might just be Anthony Pettis who had a spectacular head kick win over Joe Lauzon, and it wouldn't be the first time Pettis has beaten Henderson.

not sure whats up with Rampage Jackson, but he didn't make weight and looked very ordinary against Ryan Bader. might be time for big fella to hang em up.

Mark Hunt V Cheick Congo was a short fight thanks to the fantastic timing of Mark Hunt's strikes, finishing Congo early in the first. great result for Hunt, and lets not forget he's an aussie after wins like this.

one of the best comebacks i have ever seen in the UFC from Tim Boetsch against Yushin Okami. Okami smashed Boetsch for 2 rounds before Boestch unleashed in the third round to pull the win from nowhere with a brutal K.O

Jake Shields again showed that his strikes are pathetic, but still managed to beat sexyama somehow.

the Japanese audience probably won't have liked most of the results as all the home town fighters bar one, got beaten, but it was still a very entertaining card.

Alves V Kampmann in Sydney this week should be a good main event, the rest of the card still looks like a dogs breakfast.

Agree with all you said man.

I thought Henderson would win, but was in Edgar's corner hoping like hell he'd have another answer. But he just didn't have enough power to trouble Henderson and that became frustrating to watch.

Edgar was doing well, but once in a while my spider senses go off and I saw that up-kick coming way before it happened. That was big.

In a way I'm glad Henderson won, I've taken to disliking him, I'll just say it, it's the thanking his saviour BS. Spare me, or should I say save me.

So now I get to cheer on whoever takes him and jesus for the belt. Another Pettis highlight would be nice.

Dana White reckons Edgar won, I mean come on, it was a great fight, but Henderson clearly took it.

I wanna see Aldo v Edgar, but all I see is Aldo destroying Frankie. He's fought and destroyed quicker fighters than Frankie. And good luck catching Aldo kicks.

Rampage should hang em up. Will he stick around for a chance to belt Rich Franklin after recent comments? I wouldn't mind that.

The Boetsch comeback was awesome, although he was never really half out of it like a Kongo or Edgar, there's always a chance to turn things around. But yeah, he was dominated for 2 then went to work.

Those uppercuts like he was fixing a sink were nuts.

Loved Aussie Hunt's big win!

Hioki looked excellent.

I had a Boetsch, Hunt, Henderson multibet on... but the losing leg? Jake f.....g Shields.

Are you joking, how does this clown ever win. He's garbage. Surely I'm being punked.

that multi would have been huge, i imagine it would have paid big, and of all the fights to miss out on it's Shields. i can imagine the feeling when Shields took him down late in that fight!

the saviour BS gives me the Sh!ts too, i mean apart from you being thankful to him for everything you do win or lose, i doubt the saviour would really want you to beat the cr@p out of some other guy!

The multi was huge, 200-1, forgot to mention Bader was in it too, it was a last minute, last 10 dollars bet, had a crack at some likely underdogs. I thought Sexyama was the surest bet out of the lot. goddamnit

thats brutal!

Sydney.

Well the McCall / Johnson decision was a joke, and has been announced that it was a mistake and was meant to be a draw.

I love this sport, but come on, when will amateur hour be over? It's about time people started losing their jobs over mistakes like these, then maybe they'll stop happening.

McCall won in my opinion.

There will be a rematch.

The good:

Hippo Perosh! Is there a fighter that makes you laugh when you see he's won more than this guy? I mean he's a big goon who looks like he'll help you in the whitegoods department in Harvey Norman, then he somehow gets you on the floor, chokes you or pounds the shoit out of your face. Good on him! Love it. If Jones thinks he could handle it, give him a shot at the Hippo.

James Te Huna (or according to Chael, Tuna). Holy mother of New Zealand, this guy is vicious! That was just brutal McFlurry action. I'm surprised there's not more of a hype machine behind this kid, he's been very impressive, an unlucky loss against Gustafsson who I rate very highly, Te Huna even looked good in that fight.

Hope he gets someone big, Shogun, Machida, Hendo... Maybe Bader? I can see that happening.

Hitman Kampmann. Another week another epic comeback. I like this guy, I have no idea how he managed to win this.

The slick submissions, can't remember the names but their was some great BJJ on display.

The Bad:

Noke: Yuck. Sloppy Joe. Looked good for 3 minutes, looked horrible for the last 12.

Alves. Why oh why would you go for the takedown? Where's the Pitbull? Going for the points instead of the killer finish and he paid for it. So stupid.

Having Chael in the studio crossed. The man needs to be in an institution, not on my TV.

Apparently Kyle Noke did his knee early on, that explains a lot! Top effort to keep fighting regardless.

  • 2 weeks later...

only just caught up with this card such was my lack of enthusiasm for it. not much happened that made me think any differently or wish that i had gone to see it.

agree with your thoughts and also glad to hear that there was a reason for Noke's performance.

i saw Te Huna in the first (i think) UFC in Sydney and he's a big big boy and pretty shredded too. he looked a little one-dimentional in that he could wrestle and ground & pound, but i think he's added some tricks. He is of course an aussie at the moment also.

D.A that avatar.......i didn't know Maynard was a dees fan.

  • 3 weeks later...

Maynard is OGD.

So Overeem tested positive. There's a surprise, pause, not.

Just when I thought this weeks sports news couldn't get any worse.

Not that I care about him, I care that the sport is full of these cheating, loser scumbags. And I won't get to see JDS knock him the fark back to Amsterdam.

Clean it up, start banning them for life. No exceptions.

i Hadn't heard that......man that sucks.

you're right about the life ban, by the time they get the all clear to come back their name is tarnished as far as i'm concerned.

Massive build-up to this card with the main between Jones and Evans, and i was left slightly disappointed with the main show. i'm not a fan of either of these guys but i don't hate Jones as most do so i was watching from a faily neutral standpoint. i thought Jones controlled this fight from start to finish and was a little disappointed Evans didn't mix it up a bit more but i can only imagine how hard it would be to do that against Jones. Everyone i know who follows this sport was hoping for a lucky bomb to land from Evans, and if it happened, thats all it would have been, but not even that looked likely.

Enjoyed watching Rory MacDonald again as he destroyed a quality opponent in Che Mills. he looks the goods.....just the state the bleeding obvious.

also liked the very short Brendan Schaub v Ben Rothwell match-up. so many times now we have seen a heavyweight in trouble only to land a massive bomb to end the fight....it was Rothwell in this one.

Mark Hominick V Eddie Yagin was also entertaining with Hominick seemingly winning the fight, but when you get knocked down twice in 2 different rounds you really need to dominate the rest of the fight to get the points. Hominick won the fight i thought, but the decision went to Yagin and it's hard to argue.

that was about the highlights for me as i didn't catch the prelims, now looking for Miller to smash Nate Diaz in a weeks time.....please Jim FFS....

I know it's not UFC but this has to go somewhere.

Watching a dock on Mayweather v. Cotto fight. They both come across as complete and utter immature, self-indulged individuals.

I used to love boxing before the days of UFC, now I rarely watch it. People used to scoff when they were told UFC would take over boxing....... But not anymore. Boxing is in desperate need of some quality fighters, 3 or 4 fighters aside, they just don't have them.

How old is Kostya Tszyu's son now? Lol

Late response, been in hospital for 4 weeks, intensive care for 3 of them, but that's another story...

Pretty much agree with all you said there, except I was hoping for Evans to land a bomb like I've never hoped before. You're right, didn't mix it up. Didn't attack enough simply. I'm not sure why someone explosive doesn't rush and back up Jones, Vitor style. Jones hasn't displayed knock out power, so what are they afraid of?

Rory Mc is frightening. Will rule that division.

Loved the Hommonick / Yagin fight.

I preferred the 2 fight nights either side of 145, some great fights amongst them.

Nate Diaz looks like the real deal. Easy to hate, it's entertaining and good for the sport. How weird would Diaz v Edgar be?

Sad to see Pat Barry lose again, Johnson is a brute.

Gustafsson is my new great hope at LHW. Would love to see him v Jones, maybe it can be arranged when Hendo KO's Jones.

There were a few great fights but I can't remember who was in them.

I think there's a card tomorrow?

Who are people liking for Dos Santos/Mir?

What a card this is! Can't wait.

JDS via TKO first round

Velasquez

Herman via decision (but I'll be going for Big Country)

I just heard Mark Hunt is out and Lavar Johnson is in against Struve, spewing! Lavar via murder, but I'll be hoping Struve pulls one of his trademark comebacks.

Mayhem by rear naked choke.

Hardy by decision.

Spewing about Mark Hunt... Hopefully sets up a bout with Lavar Johnson if he wins.

Damn was looking forward to watching Hunt too. Absolutely love Velasquez and was shattered when he lost to Dos Santos... should handle Silva okay.

If they stay up, Dos Santos should win it fairly quickly but if Mir can ground him it could be interesting! Mir would have to have the superior ground game yeah?

Watched Mir vs Tank Abbott the other day on unleashed... funny fight!

Hey D.A sorry to hear about your visit to the hospital mate, hope the recovery is going ok.

Passenger.......i'm going out on a limb and tipping Mir by submission and i'll also tip Big country.......other than that i think D.A is on the money.

should be a good card.

when i heard that the Silva V Sonnen fight was goona be in Vegas i started scrambling for my UFC mates to go to this fight as it would be unreal to Silva fight, but alas.......they didn't have the cash, and even after considering taking my Wife and four children......lol.......the Vegas trip looks like happening early next year.......Dammit!

Del Rosario is one to watch on this card, 11 and 0 with 8 KO's and 3 submissions.

Apparently Overeem was dropped from the card for testing positive to roids.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
