Against Hawthorn only six players had more than 10 kicks. Those players averaged 69% efficiency (I guess that number would incl handballs).

Melb had more handballs than kicks - 175 kicks and 176 handballs.

Marks were Haw 133 to Melb 85. (well I guess we can't mark it if we don't kick it)

I would hate to see a stat for running hard but I imagine it would be horrendous.

Summary:

We don't run anywhere near hard enough, we don't kick it. We can't possibly win or play decent footy with a so-called game plan like this.

The Hawks put tremendous pressure on us and forced us to the boundary all day causing us to run out of room and in most cases the only option was to handball or kick long. When you looked up the field there was no one to kick to anyway so it made it even harder.

When we took the kick-in after a point to the Hawks it took about 5 minutres for the kicker to decide where to go and by that time everyone was covered and he had to kick to someone tight on the boundary or to a contest upfield. There was of course the other option, kick it straight to the oposition, we tried that a couple of times as well.

It would be interesting to see how many goals Hawthorn kicked following our kick-ins. In general our kicking was poor but it was at times impossible to find a free target so we handballed to someone just to get rid of the ball and hoping the recipient would have better luck.

I don't think they forced us to the boundary, but rather choked up the corridor.

We on the other hand were reluctant (probably through lack of belief in one another) didn't take the risks of run & carry to break up their defensive structures & create our own opportunities, so we just played the game meekly according to their plan.

As I said in another thread, we played too many inexperienced at once causing our core group to be negative thinking, lacking deep belief. The lack of a forwardline exasperated this.
