2009 Player Review - # 47 James Strauss

James Strauss โ€“ James had an injury-interrupted year. It was disappointing we didn't get as much football as we would've liked into Watts, Blease and Strauss. Unfortunately, James had a back injury and he also had shoulder surgery but he has some great attributes โ€“ he is a good kick and is powerful. We rate him really highly and he's a great kid but he just needs to have a very big summerย  โ€“ Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au

Awaiting his debut with anticipation. Touch wood an injury free season next year so Mfc can get some footy into him. Of what I did see of him in the Casey Seniors was admittedly very little. But what I did see looked promising. In particular the run off half back, one-two handball, followed up, kicks a goal from outside 50m at pace, at Williamstown on a windy day.

Both he and Blease seem to be the forgotten recruits in a way. Let us hope they both wet our appetite in 2010.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
