Expect a lot from Watts

The MFC are paying Watts $70,000 a year to play high school footy??

Look at it like real estate. Regardless of what we're paying him, and how much he plays this year, it's a long term investment that hopefully skyrockets in value over the longer term.

he is training with melbourne and preparing for a future with melbourne...he is just supposedly not going to play that many games.

playing x number of games when he is 17 will hardly make a difference in 6 years time when we are (hopefully) challanging or have been challanging for the flag.

Surely Casey will get preference over school football...he might even be able to spread his Year 12 over 2 years to make attending training a lot easier

Melbourne are PAYING Jack Watts......Jack Watts parent are PAYING Brighton Grammar School....

Logic tells me that Melbourne will be calling the shots as to where Jack plays

Unless of course he is on a scholarship at Brighton...

I think it may be a requirment of the school to play footy. In any case school footy (from what i hear) is a much smaller program than the 22 game AFL season.

In any case i think Jack will place a high priority (as will the MFC) on achieving a decent VCE score. The club will also take into account his physical wellbeing and i see him playing around 14 - 16 games (barring injury) including NAB, MFC and Casey.

NAB and Casey will be a lot less demanding than the AFL proper.

tbh The club will probably go with whatever Jack wants to do.

Don't underestimate the power of an APS school mate ;)

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
