Pre National Phantom Draft

Featured Replies

Couldn't stop at 40, had to do the first three rounds

I also tried to pick for teams needs, and thus this isn’t necessarily in order of best to worst.

It amazes me how often a person doing a Phantom Draft misses that point

I know i felt i had to make that comment before people started picking my order apart because player x is better then player y, but i took player y first.

What are people thoughts on Mckernan v Schoenmakers

Have the feeling the Mckernan will slide big time to around 19-25, both have huge upside but i feel schoenmakers is a safer pick. But at the same time i think Mckernan has better potential but is more likely to be a bust. Would like us to get Blease+Mckernan or Swift+Schoenmakers safer pick+high risk high reward pick.

I get caught up in picturing Corey McKernan running around for MFC, but I think you're probably right.

Swift & Schoenmakers would be my choice.

Personally I'd take McKernan.

Quicker, jumps higher, considerably bigger, comes from a good footy background and can play.

Schoenmakers was playing predominantly as a backman until he got carved up so got moved up forward for a couple of games in the carnival (according to McCartney) so you could argue he doesn't really play any one position (just as yet anyway).

tbh I don't believe McKernan is any more of a risk than Schoenmakers but has greater potential. Only problem I see McKernan having is that he seems to be primarily a ruckman but could be too short (Nick Smith anyone?)

No, he's slower. Schoenmakers ran 2.92 at DC. Players don't always use their speed in a game though.

That said, I'm surprised by the flack dished out McKernan's way. I've only seen him twice live, but he'll be a very good footballer, imo.

I also like Schoenmakers, but haven't realy sen enough of either. It's shaping as a fascinating draft.

McKernan ran quicker in the agility test though didn't he? (feel free to correct me there)

You're right about players not using their pace in games, which is where the DC doesn't give the whole picture of a player.

I don't know whether he did or didn't, but clealry pace isn't an issue for the 193cm Schoenmakers. His time in the sprint was exceptional - ranking =7 from 75 at camp.

Do you post on any Essendon sites or do you save your tiresome quips for here ?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
